Software Development Manager

Salary: $121,000 - 161,000 per year Requirements:

• We need proven experience managing software engineering teams of comparable scale, including direct leadership of other people managers such as team leads.
• We need strong technical judgment and systems thinking, with the ability to assess architecture, trade-offs, and risk and contribute credibly to technical decisions even outside your prior stack.
• We need a strong record of problem-solving across complex technical and organizational challenges, not only overseeing others who solve them.
• We need the ability to synthesize technical, product, and business context into clear decisions and direction.
• We need demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in unfamiliar domains, including using AI-assisted tools to accelerate learning and decision-making.
• We need direct experience owning or substantially improving CI/CD pipelines for a production codebase.
• We need direct experience leading a legacy-to-modern technology migration while continuing to deliver.
• We need experience owning production delivery, incident response, and operational excellence for a widely used software product.
• We need a track record of coaching and developing engineering leads and senior engineers.
• We need strong communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical cross-functional partners.
• Prior desktop or native client engineering experience, such as C#/.NET, WPF, WinForms, or a similar UI framework, is preferred but not required.
• Experience with Windows installer and release engineering is preferred.
• Experience leading distributed teams across US and international time zones, especially India, is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices is preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud-hosted services integrated with desktop applications is preferred.
• Experience in insurance, claims, or a similarly regulated or data-sensitive domain is preferred.

• We will manage four team leads and three principal engineers directly, providing coaching, career development, and performance management.
• We will create clarity and accountability for individual and team goals across a 30-person organization.
• We will drive hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and compensation input for our direct reports.
• We will support the growth of leads and engineers through regular feedback and mentoring across locations and time zones.
• We will own reliable, high-quality delivery across the teams active initiatives.
• We will partner with Product, QA, and architecture to scope, prioritize, and plan work against committed deadlines, owning outcomes jointly.
• We will remove delivery blockers and own escalation paths for the team.
• We will own production support, monitoring, and incident response for a widely used desktop client.
• We will provide technical direction in partnership with principal engineers and architects across a large modular monorepo.
• We will own CI/CD pipeline health, including build, test, and release automation, and evolve it as the codebase and delivery cadence grow.
• We will own release and deployment engineering so build, packaging, and update processes remain dependable.
• We will lead legacy-to-modern technology transitions while balancing feature delivery, migration debt, and risk.
• We will ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability across modernized and legacy .NET targets.
• We will champion engineering best practices, including testing, secure development, and technical documentation.
• We will use delivery and quality data to guide decisions and communicate progress to stakeholders.
• We will act as a point of technical continuity for a product integrated into the broader insurance claims ecosystem.
• We will model hands-on leadership in AI-assisted engineering practices at the individual, team, and organizational levels.
• We will drive engagement and inclusion across the team.
• We will contribute to engineering-wide practices and participate in org-wide initiatives and guilds.
