Mental Health Clinician I - Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (Denver)

About this Position Position exists to provide therapeutic work in the psychiatric care and treatment of adults with acute and chronic exacerbation of mental illness. Functions under supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients. Assist with psychiatric nursing care under RN direction, document behavior, physical condition, and medication responses. Participate in design and implementation of treatment plans, and provide crisis intervention as needed. Serve as patient advocate, providing education on rights and supporting families. Assist patients with activities of daily living and support confidentiality and record keeping. Escort patients to activities and appointments, including driving to community appointments. Monitor and maintain a safe therapeutic milieu through vigilance, surveillance, and use of crisis prevention techniques. Engage patients in unit activities, group sessions, meals monitoring, and assist with safety checks. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team on treatment planning and advocate for patient input. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of experience in a hospital or mental health setting, or a combination of related education and equivalent experience. At least 21 years of age. Preferred Qualifications 1+ years as Mental Health Clinician I at Colorado Mental Health Institute. 1+ years of professional inpatient mental health care experience in a psychiatric locked or secure setting. Experience developing and running treatment groups. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Recovery Principles. Outpatient mental health group running or case management experience. College or university education in nursing, psychology, sociology, human services, or education. Conditions of Employment Full background check and reference check required. Shift work may include day, evening, or night. Essential services designation; must report as needed for emergency services. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license. Exposure to bodily fluids or caustic chemicals possible. Prior disciplinary termination or resignation must be disclosed and explained.
