Job Summary:​​​

The Technical Operations Supervisor – Hematology/Clinical Chemistry provides technical and operational leadership for daily hematology laboratory activities, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality patient testing. This role serves as a primary technical resource for laboratory personnel, providing expertise in hematology instrumentation, testing methodologies, quality control, troubleshooting, validations, and workflow optimization.

​​ Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

• Serve as the primary onsite technical resource for laboratory personnel, with a focus on hematology/Clinical Chemistry testing and laboratory operations, by troubleshooting instrumentation, testing methodologies, laboratory processes, workflows, and complex testing issues.
• Investigate technical issues, quality control failures, instrument errors, testing discrepancies, and workflow deviations; implement and document appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Perform and oversee, as applicable:
  • Hematology/Clinical Chemistry method validations and method comparisons
  • Instrument validations and verifications
  • Analytical Measurement Range (AMR) and reportable range studies
  • New reagent and control lot-to-lot verifications
  • Internal audits
  • Document control activities
  • New hematology/clinical chemistry analyzer and automation implementations
  • Testing workflow evaluations and process improvements
• Verify hematology/Clinical Chemistry test procedures and establish laboratory test performance characteristics in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Quality Assurance Department.
• Verify critical hematology/clinical chemistry reagents, controls, calibrators, and testing materials in accordance with applicable CLIA and CAP requirements, including evaluation of new lot numbers and reagent shipments prior to use in patient testing.
• Demonstrate proficiency in operating and troubleshooting hematology/clinical chemistry analyzers, automated laboratory systems, and related instrumentation.
• Ensure compliance with all CLIA, CAP, state, NYSDOH (where applicable), OSHA, HIPAA, and company regulatory requirements & participate in relevant proficiency testing programs.
• Adhere to and enforce laboratory quality management systems, quality control policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety requirements.
• Partner with Laboratory Management and Quality Assurance to review, revise, and implement SOPs, hematology/Clinical Chemistry testing procedures, and workflow improvements in real time.
• Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, corrective actions, preventive actions, proficiency testing, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all laboratory documentation, including quality control, reagent verification, instrument maintenance, competency, validation, and testing records, is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements. 
• Supervise daily routine clinical laboratory operations while promoting quality, accountability, teamwork, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate and document employee competency to ensure staff maintain proficiency in hematology/clinical chemistry testing, instrumentation, specimen processing, quality control, and result reporting.
• Monitor laboratory productivity, turnaround times, staffing levels, testing volumes, and workflow metrics to ensure operational goals are achieved.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Laboratory Director.

Qualifications:

Education –

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Candidates must meet all applicable federal, state, and labora​​tory-specific education and credentialing requirements.

• Knowledge of clinical laboratory services
• Technical knowledge to monitor lab operations
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability work independently and strong attention to detail
• Strong Problem-Solving Skills
• Ability to troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis

Experience –

• 2-years of previous supervisory experience required.
• 4 to 6-years of experience in high/moderate-complexity testing in the respective specialty (blood).
• MLS certification with a Master’s degree and 6 years of clinical experience, OR an MLS certification with a Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of clinical experience
• Experience performing method validations, instrument verifications, troubleshooting, and implementation of corrective actions.
• Comprehensive understanding of laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) principles
• Relevant experience across clinical laboratory disciplines.
• Experience with regulatory compliance, including CLIA, CAP, and applicable state requirements.

Certifications/Licenses –

• ASCP/AMT, or other organizations preferred unless required by the state in which the laboratory is located.

Tuesday - Saturday; 3:00am-1:30pm (hours may slightly vary)
