Associate Engineer, Grid Operations Technology (Hybrid)

Role and Scope of Position The Associate Engineer is responsible for supporting the execution, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Company’s Distribution Management System (DMS). The engineer will be part of a team that supports the Company’s electric control centers, optimizes the distribution system to deliver safe, reliable, and resilient energy, and maximizes the value of clean energy resources. Essential Functions Support electric system operators by optimizing the distribution system using DMS advanced functionality such as Automatic Feeder Reconfiguration (AFR), Load Volt/VAR Management (LVM), Planned Outage Study, and DER/Load Forecasting. Develop expertise in real‑time system technologies including ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var optimization, and load shedding. Collaborate with system operations control centers, IT, and engineering resources to ensure DMS functionality and future enhancements. Support the specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications such as FLISR, LVM, AFR, and Load and Generation Scheduling. Participate in the review and assessment of technology options related to grid modernization, including competitive procurement processes. Develop tools and methods to process and organize data from multiple sources to design and verify engineering models and databases. Support multi‑disciplinary teams across three states—distribution engineering, system planning, substation engineering, telecommunications engineering, standards, system operations, field operations, IT, regulatory, legal, community relations, corporate strategy, and others—to ensure effective and efficient implementation of grid modernization programs. Communicate the Company’s grid modernization initiatives externally as appropriate and participate in technical knowledge sharing. Technical Knowledge / Skill Knowledge of utility power systems preferred. Familiarity with power‑related software preferred. Education Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Experience 0‑3 years of related experience required. Engineering design experience preferred. Licenses & Certifications None required. Working Conditions Must be available for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary. A valid driver’s license is required. Salary is commensurate with experience and in the range $82,800.00–$92,000.00. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
