About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, post-cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma
• Manage IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; maintain hemodynamic lines and support ventilator management and proning
• Monitor and interpret telemetry; apply strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 (1:3 rare and acuity dependent); collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team including intensivists, APPs, and respiratory therapy
• Document accurately using Epic (required) and facility charting systems including Alaris/Baxter pumps and Omnicell
• Float to adult floors including Med/Surg or Telemetry (1:4 ratio) if overstaffed; ICU-qualified travelers may also float to the ED

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; South Dakota Board of Nursing licensure required (or eligibility)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
• Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• TNCC certification required - candidates unwilling to obtain prior to start will not be considered
• Epic EMR proficiency required
• Comfortable with an expected 48-hour/week contract schedule - this is a firm requirement for this unit
• Must live at least 100 miles from any facility location to be eligible

• Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR with 24-48 hours post-op experience
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Familiarity with a high-volume trauma patient population
• Experience working in a mixed ICU environment (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU)

• Work in a well-supported ICU environment with 24/7 respiratory therapy, intensivist coverage on all shifts, charge nurse oversight, CNA support, and resource nurse availability
