Environmental Technician
Aquagga Inc.
Environmental Technician Job Description
This is a hands-on technical role that combines laboratory testing, pilot-scale equipment, data processing, and field support.
It is not strictly a laboratory position. Depending on the project, work may take place around:
- Laboratory benches and fume hoods
- Pilot-scale treatment systems
- Warehouse and equipment-development areas
- Temporary field testing setups
- Customer and industrial project sites
The position is designed for an early-career employee who can build technical competency over time.
Most day-to-day technical development will begin in Tacoma.
Typical activities may include:
- Pipetting and solution preparation
- Acid/base titrations
- Analytical weighing
- Sample preparation and neutralization
- Preparing samples for external laboratories
- Sample labeling and documentation
- Pilot-scale treatment testing
- Cleaning and maintaining testing equipment
- Organizing laboratory and testing areas
- Entering and processing test data
The technician will generally execute established methods and approved test plans rather than independently design research programs.
Candidates should understand basic general chemistry and acid/base chemistry and have some experience performing laboratory work.
That experience can come from:
- College laboratory courses
- Undergraduate research
- Internships
- Previous employment
- Similar hands-on technical experience
Aquagga does not expect entry-level candidates to already be experts in PFAS or Aquagga's treatment technology.
After training and qualification, technicians may travel with project teams to support customer deployments.
Field activities may include:
- Collecting and preparing samples
- Performing field measurements
- Maintaining chain-of-custody records
- Neutralizing and preparing samples for shipment
- Recording system and testing data
- Supporting treatment-system monitoring
- Maintaining contamination-control practices
- Assisting with system operation within the employee's qualification level
Travel may reach approximately 40% during active project seasons, rather than being evenly distributed throughout the year.
Helpful but non-required experience includes environmental or wastewater sampling, experimental data processing, ion-selective electrodes, chain-of-custody practices, external analytical laboratories, pilot equipment, industrial environments, or PFAS-related work.
Successful technicians tend to be people who:
- Enjoy hands-on technical work
- Pay attention to details
- Follow procedures consistently
- Notice when results or equipment behavior seem unusual
- Ask questions when something is unclear
- Maintain organized notes and records
- Take initiative without working outside their training
- Communicate observations and progress clearly
- Are comfortable learning in both laboratory and field environments
Aquagga will provide role-specific training on PFAS practices, contamination control, equipment, field procedures, and qualification requirements.
