Physician - Primary Care (Sedalia)

Overview

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Examine and talk to patients to diagnose medical conditions
• Carry out procedures as appropriately credentialed and make notes for legal records and for the benefit of other health care professionals
• Work with other doctors as part of a team, either within the same department or across other specialties
• Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff to ensure quality treatment
• Promote health education
• Undertake managerial responsibilities such as planning the workload and staffing of the department, especially at more senior levels
• Physicians manage a patient panel in conjunction with their Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT)
• Each PACT is staffed by a physician, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and a clerk
• The PACT model emphasizes team contributions to veteran care
• Physicians see an average of 8-14 patients per day during scheduled appointment times, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
• No after-hours or weekend call is required; moonlighting outside of normal hours is allowed

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy); Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school; current full and unrestricted medical license in the United States; completion of residency training approved by VA; if in an academic program, board certification may be required for faculty status; proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board eligibility in Family Practice or Internal Medicine (certification preferred).)

Additional notes: Residency training must be in an accredited core specialty; PRPs (Physician Resident Providers) may be appointed if currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs and fully licensed; PRPs are not independent practitioners and operate under supervision.
