The City of Georgetown is recruiting to establish an eligibility list for the Civil Service position of Paramedic. Responsibilities Respond to all medical emergencies, fires for support activities, rescues and recovery alarms. Sustain a high level of preparedness for emergencies. Maintain vehicles and equipment for medical emergencies, rescue and recovery. Provide team-based care and support during all types of emergencies. Adhere to the City and Fire Department Mission, Vision, and Values statements and professional standards of the Fire Department. Minimum Qualifications Certified or licensed paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or the National Registry, or an EMT-B through TDSHS eligible to sit for the exam if enrolled in a paramedic program with an expected graduation date of no later than June 30, 2026. Not be forty-five (45) years of age or older at time of hire. At least eighteen (18) years of age on the date of the written exam. Graduate of an accredited high school or possess a GED. Be able to read, write and speak English. Be of good moral character. Possess a valid Texas driver’s license within 60 days of hire, unless extended by the Department Head. Legally eligible to work within the United States. Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination. Pass a background investigation. Successfully complete the physical ability test. Pass oral interviews. Obtain or possess certifications consistent with the Fire Department hiring policy. Successfully complete a post‑job offer drug screen, psychological examination and medical examination including a visual acuity test and physician certification that the applicant is not dependent on or uses illegal drugs. Demonstrate skill in reading operations manuals, safety procedures, training manuals and other materials to maintain certification. Writing reports and record‑keeping. Accurately record drug calculations and timesheets. Understand division procedures and policies. Eligibility Preferences First Preference – Certified or licensed paramedic through TDSHS or the National Registry at the time of the written examination. Second Preference – Certified or licensed EMT-B through TDSHS or the National Registry at the time of the written examination and currently enrolled in a paramedic program with an expected completion date of no later than June 30, 2026. Salary and Benefits Starting salary: $76,421 (based on a 56‑hour work week, including Paramedic Credentialing pay of $6,400/year).
