Registered Nurse Forensic Nurse Examiner

Job Description Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, using technology, therapeutic interventions, evidence‑based practice, and coordination with other health team members. This position covers 13:00–01:00 shift rotations and requires an active RN license with at least one year of experience, completion of the SANE/SAFE Project Comprehensive Sexual Assault Examiner Program (or equivalent), and preferably forensic nurse examiner experience. Key duties include providing trauma‑informed care, conducting comprehensive medical‑forensic examinations, managing evidence with chain‑of‑custody requirements, collaborating with law enforcement and advocacy services, and providing court testimony as needed. Shift and Benefits Three 12‑hour shift rotations with differential pay for evenings, nights, and weekends. Eligible for the organization’s comprehensive benefits package. Essential Functions Assess: Perform a comprehensive assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, considering cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Seek information from interdisciplinary team members. Plan: Use assessment data and critical thinking to develop an individualized plan of care, involving patients, families, the team, and physicians, and including education, referrals, and follow‑up as needed. Implement: Direct and coordinate the interdisciplinary care team, delegate tasks, and deliver care aligned with plan, guidelines, and licensure provisions. Prioritize and organize patient care, time, supplies, and resources. Evaluate: Review patient responses to interventions, assess goal achievement, patient and family satisfaction, modify the plan of care, and reassess changes. Professionalism: Promote the nursing profession, support others’ development, integrate legal and ethical standards, comply with regulations, practice within licensure scope, provide accurate documentation, and understand legal implications. Valid compact licenses transferred within 60 days of employment start. RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of hire. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for health care providers. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. BSN required as of 4/27/2025; employees hired before that date will be held to prior minimum requirements. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment, and communicate verbally. Requires manual dexterity, frequent computer use, and the capacity to lift, carry, and move patients and supplies up to heavy weights, navigate crowded rooms, and stand for extended periods. For driving duties, requires ability to drive safely and read traffic signs. Location and Compensation Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Scheduled weekly hours: 36.
