Your County employment must be clearly listed in your work experience. Department of Airports is recruiting for an Airport Maintenance Worker II who, in a lead capacity, will perform general maintenance, repair, and construction at County airport facilities. These duties may include operating and maintaining power tools, tractors, and heavy equipment; responding to airport fires and emergencies; and operating a Unicom radio to provide pilot advisory information such as weather and runway conditions. In addition, incumbents may assume the duties and responsibilities necessary to continue maintenance activities in the absence of the Airport Maintenance Supervisor. The County maintains airports in Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow, Chino, Needles, and Twentynine Palms. The current vacancy exists in Apple Valley. Conditions of Employment License Must maintain a valid California Class B (or higher) driver license with endorsements for air brakes, tank, and manual transmissions. The DOT mandates drug testing of all employees in jobs requiring a Class B or higher driver license. Prior to hire, employees must pass a medical examination and drug test. Employees are subject to random drug testing as well as drug testing following accidents and upon reasonable suspicion. Travel throughout the County may be required. Physical Incumbents must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, turn, climb, twist, crawl, and balance. Requires fine manipulation in both hands. Employees work outside continuously and are exposed to electricity, chemicals, heat, oil, odors, dust, gas, and noise. Work Assignment Employees are subject to 24‑hour call back in the event of an emergency and must be able to respond to the airport within 45 minutes. Incumbents may be assigned to different locations depending on departmental needs, and are required to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. The County maintains airports in Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow, Chino, Needles, and Twentynine Palms. Qualifications Two (2) years of building construction and maintenance experience at a general aviation airport, which included carpentry, plumbing, construction or electrical work. Ideal candidate will be familiar with regulatory and grant compliance requirements and procedures. There will be a competitive evaluation based on a review of the application materials.
