Quality Assurance Supervisor
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and execution of the Quality Control program. This position ensures that all products, repairs, and services conform to contractual requirements, customer specifications, technical standards, and company procedures through effective oversight, verification, and documentation activities. The Quality Control Supervisor provides leadership to Quality Control inspectors, dimensional inspectors, and calibration coordination functions while serving as the primary liaison between production personnel, planning, customers, regulatory representatives, and senior leadership regarding inspection and quality oversight activities. This position requires extensive knowledge of shipbuilding and repair quality standards, government specifications, welding inspection, inspection processes, and quality documentation requirements. This is a full-time onsite position located in Norfolk, Virginia, and may require work beyond a standard work week to support operational requirements.
Job Description
Direct and manage all daily operations of the Quality Control Team.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Quality Control inspectors and dimensional inspectors.
Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, staffing requirements, and training plans.
Conduct regular training sessions covering inspection requirements, customer expectations, workmanship standards, and quality performance.
Coordinate departmental resources to support multiple projects while maintaining schedule commitments.
Perform surveillances on welding operations.
Promote safe work practices and adherence to company policies.
Ensure proper execution of all in-process, final, workmanship, dimensional, and welding inspections.
Coordinate inspection activities with Production team.
Review inspection reports, test records, and support documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Monitor production activities to ensure compliance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, and approved procedures.
Identify, document, and track non-conforming conditions through established reporting processes.
Support root cause investigations related to quality deficiencies and recurring inspection findings.
Resolve technical inspection issues affecting production schedules.
Participate in customer, owner, government, and regulatory oversight as required.
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and company procedures.
Monitor work activities to ensure products and services meet established acceptance criteria.
Assist departments in understanding and applying quality and inspection requirements.
Review and approve Quality Control inspection records for completeness and accuracy.
Ensure inspection and test documentation is properly maintained and retained in accordance with contractual and company requirements.
Qualifications
Must have at least five (5) years' experience in ship repair, manufacturing, machining, engineering services or technical field, which includes 4 years performing in a role with quality or operational related responsibilities with preference given to a welding background.
Must have knowledge of NAVSEA, NAVFAC, AISC, HII/NNS, EB, AWS, ASME, and/or ABS requirements.
Must have knowledge of quality techniques and systems, including quality specifications and/or advanced quality systems.
Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
Travel Requirements
Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements
Remain in a stationary position, could be standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods.
Ability to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Due to work being in a shipyard/industrial environment, this type of work has physical demands that requires frequent movement up to 50% of the time. Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility.
Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
