The student worker will provide academic guidance through FREE peer-to-peer support via tutoring, embedded course support, and study/test-taking strategies for a variety of subject areas at the Academic Success Center.Tutors will facilitate one-on-one or group sessions, both in-person and online, for a variety of subjects to provide guidance in understanding course concepts, study strategies, and/or suggest appropriate campus referrals. Tutoring is a great way to help others while learning more about the subject yourself and is an excellent opportunity to prepare for graduate school or for a career as an educator or researcher. Tutors will participate in pre-semester and ongoing training in best practices for academic support/learning theory, facilitating collaborative learning, and teamwork. All ASC staff will provide basic customer service at the front desk during their shifts.**Tutoring Subjects Needed:**Tutors are needed for a variety of subjects/courses, including but not limited to:* Accounting/Business* American Sign Language* Anatomy & Physiology* Biology* Computer Science* Chemistry* Data Science* Economics* Educational Mathematics (MATH 122 & MATH 123)* Geology* General Laboratory Skills (BIOL 450 Lab Skills)* Geology* Math* Praxis CORE Math* Pre-Nursing* Physics* Psychology* Statistics* Spanish* Speech Pathology* TEAS Test Prep* Visual MediaHiring will be determined in part by subjects that are most needed for the upcoming semester. In order to strengthen the university and progress its mission, the university dedicates itself to intentional and ongoing reflection to meeting the evolving needs of Nevada State University, the surrounding communities, and the State of Nevada.We seek applicants who are passionate about working with this promising student population and collaborating with faculty and staff across departments to make a lasting impact in developing our institution and our community.We encourage you to highlight your background in fostering an inclusive campus culture and supporting the success of students who are historically underrepresented in higher education.**Core Responsibilities:*** Conduct one-on-one or group tutoring sessions in-person and online for approved subjects daily/weekly.* Hold drop-in tutoring sessions and/or drop-in tutoring labs where multiple students can walk in for tutoring.* Assist with marketing and advertising sessions to the campus community.* Coordinate with faculty on course-specific materials and resources.* Prepare for tutoring sessions and document sessions daily/weekly.* Assist with front desk coverage and customer service (answering phones, scheduling appointments, student referrals, etc.).* Participate in pre-semester training, ongoing training, and staff meetings (bi-weekly/monthly).**Minimum Qualifications:*** Have earned or expect to earn a B+ or better in the subject(s) you are applying to tutor.* Have earned a Nevada State GPA of 3.0 or better over the last 2 semesters OR a cumulative GPA of 3.0.* Must be enrolled at Nevada State with a minimum of 6 credits for the semester in which you will hold the position.* Provide letter of recommendation from academic faculty for the course(s) you are applying to tutor.* Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).**Please note**: Applicants must meet the posted minimum qualifications at the time of application in order to be considered for the position.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Ability to present oneself professionally and interact with others in a courteous and respectful manner.* Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn and apply procedures and regulations.* Ability to work and manage multiple duties, projects, and assignments while meeting established deadlines.* Ability to work in a high-paced, noisy environment.**Work Hours:**This position will work 10-19.5 hours per week depending on student traffic/demand and department budget; flexible scheduling with work schedule to be arranged.
