Job Details Location: Missouri City, TX Salary Range: $11.00 – $15.00 hourly Job Summary The Flagger / Traffic Control worker is responsible for the safe and efficient control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around active civil construction, road and bridge, and environmental services work zones. This role protects the safety of the traveling public, the work crew, and site visitors by directing traffic flow, installing and maintaining temporary traffic control (TTC) devices, and enforcing site safety protocols in accordance with company policy, the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD), and applicable TxDOT and OSHA standards. This is a safety‑sensitive, entry‑level field position that serves as a foundation for advancement into other field operations, equipment operator, or safety roles within the company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct and control the flow of vehicular, pedestrian, and equipment traffic at construction sites, roadway work zones, and other locations as assigned, using approved hand signals, paddles/signs (STOP/SLOW), and radios. Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control (TTC) devices such as cones, drums, barricades, signs, arrow boards, and message boards in accordance with the project's approved Traffic Control Plan (TCP) and the TMUTCD. Inspect traffic control devices throughout each shift to ensure proper placement, visibility, and condition; promptly report or correct any damaged, missing, or improperly placed devices. Communicate clearly and continuously with equipment operators, crew members, supervisors, and motorists to maintain a safe and orderly traffic pattern, including advance warning of stopped or slow‑moving traffic. Follow all company safety protocols, site‑specific safety plans, and applicable OSHA, TxDOT, and MUTCD guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, or property damage. Monitor work zone conditions continuously and immediately report unsafe conditions, near‑misses, incidents, or traffic control concerns to the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager. Wear and properly maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high‑visibility apparel meeting ANSI/ISEA 107 Class 2 or 3 standards, hard hat, safety glasses, and appropriate footwear. Assist with the setup and break down of work zones, including loading and unloading traffic control equipment from company vehicles. Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times, including heavy equipment operation, moving traffic, and changing weather or lighting conditions. Participate in daily safety briefings (tailgate/toolbox talks) and job hazard analyses prior to beginning work. Accurately complete required documentation, including sign‑in sheets, daily logs, and incident reports, as directed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Current Flagger Certification (e.g., TxDOT-approved or ATSSA Flagger Certification) required prior to working independently on site; company‑provided training available for candidates without current certification. Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment; must be able to pass a DOT/company pre‑employment drug screen where applicable. Experience & Skills Prior flagging, traffic control, or construction site experience preferred but not required for entry‑level candidates. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, site‑specific traffic control plans, and safety guidelines. Excellent communication skills to effectively and assertively direct traffic and interact with drivers, pedestrians, and coworkers. Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in setting up and maintaining traffic control devices. Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional in a fast‑paced environment with high traffic volume and variable conditions. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills a plus. Physical Demands & Work Environment Physical stamina to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods, often 8–12 hour shifts. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Ability to lift, carry, and set up traffic control devices weighing up to 25–50 lbs. Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion associated with device placement and removal. Exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, dust, noise, and roadway construction hazards; strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols is required. Work may be performed at night, on weekends, holidays, or on-call, and may require overtime based on project and traffic control needs. Reliable transportation to variable job site locations throughout the greater Houston area is required. Reporting Relationship This position reports directly to the Site Superintendent or Foreman for day‑to‑day work assignments, with safety‑related direction, training, and oversight provided by the Safety Manager (Carlos Guerrero) and the Environmental Allies safety team.
