Registered Nurse - Part time

Monday - Friday - No holidays / on‑call required. Job Duties & Responsibilities The registered nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) performs professional nursing activities in the care of patients so they may achieve or regain, and then maintain, maximum physical, emotional or social functions. Role functions are governed by the Nurse Practice Act, the Administrative Code, and the professional standards for nursing practice, as well as the corresponding policies and procedures of Rogers Memorial Hospital (Rogers). The registered nurse seeks consultation with other members of the health team as the patient’s condition and treatment goals warrant. He/She, in conjunction with the Patient Accounts department, provides patient information to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes. Complete initial assessments and documents as required. Patient Assessment Collect, record, and analyze pertinent data for admission within prescribed timeframe. Identify patient strengths and limitations that can be addressed in reaching health goals. Consider cultural, spiritual, and ethnic factors that may impact treatment. Determine patient needs to be addressed at discharge. Assess medical/physical status. Review history of medication compliance, reactions, and current schedule. Gather age‑specific data regarding individual needs. Family Involvement Observe and document patient interaction with family and friends as it is pertinent to treatment. Obtain assessment data from support systems where appropriate. Patient Advocacy Explain patient rights and obtain appropriate signatures. Provide information and obtain consent signatures. Act as patient advocate, use knowledge of rights and responsibilities, and protect privacy and confidentiality. Assist in patient orientation. Know and employ hospital policies regarding unit safety, gown/contraband search, and respect while performing. Remain sensitive to individual stressors. Plan of Care Initiate and update treatment plans as required. Participate in planning and modifying plans. Evaluate data from other providers by reviewing treatment plans and multidisciplinary assessments. Participate in care conferences and represent nursing care component. Develop and interpret plans with patient/family. Write clear, concise, obtainable treatment goals. Review plans as goals are achieved, changed, or updated. Ongoing Assessment Review lab data and follow up with doctors. Evaluate potential for falls and initiate precautions. Identify potential for self‑abuse, suicidality, or assaultive behavior. Develop age‑appropriate interventions. Assess changes in patient status and document interventions. Medication Administration Demonstrate safe and correct medication administration. Ensure accuracy: right patient, medication, dose, time, and route. Maintain current knowledge of medication purpose and effects. Accurately transcribe and implement orders. Monitor for adverse reactions and interactions. Conduct patient education about medications. Stay current on new pharmacologic products. Patient Safety and Crisis Management Use de‑escalation techniques, locked seclusion, and restraints when appropriate. Re‑evaluate safety level. Identify alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Identify extra‑pyramidal side‑effects or neuroleptic malignant syndrome signs. Identify significant cardiac or respiratory symptoms requiring immediate intervention. Health Education Implement mandatory teaching interventions before discharge. Document interventions in the record and treatment plan. Organize care activities according to patient priorities and unit needs. Adhere to unit and hospital policies and standards of care. Ensure adherence to EMTALA regulations as requested by QMP. Maintain nursing standards of practice and patient care. Protect patients, visitors, and staff from hazards by following safety and infection control standards. Participate in continuing education and in‑service programs to enhance clinical competence. Report education outcomes to unit staff. Attend 100% of required in‑services. Participate in the Performance Improvement program. Unit Standards Development Assist in the development and implementation of unit standards of care. Identify problems with unit systems, communication patterns, and unit resources and suggest solutions. Identify equipment and supply needs. Serve on one unit‑based committee or participate in unit projects. Participate as a project leader. Leadership & Charge Nurse Role Coordinate unit activities and serve as charge nurse. Take a leadership role in crisis situations. Facilitate the admission process. Communicate unit status and projected needs. Manage the therapeutic milieu and exercise sound clinical judgment. Plan assignments to facilitate continuity of care based on needs and staffing. Maintain unit orderliness. Serve as a role model for peers. Supervise and delegate tasks to LPN/psychiatric technicians. Provide acuity monitors to Patient Accounts for accurate billing. Maintain a primary caseload according to unit standards and provide direction. Professional Development Projects Develop goals and objectives for professional growth. Take initiative to acquire new skills through continuing education. Discuss progress toward work improvement goals with Clinical Services manager. Seek out additional projects or tasks based on unit needs. Education / Training Requirements Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Registered nurse licensed by the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing. American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or completion within thirty (30) days of hire. Bi‑annual re‑certification required. Formal training in aggressive patient management required within sixty (60) days of hire. Annual re‑certification required. Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents and adults preferred. May be required to hold a qualified medical professional (QMP) designation. Competent status evaluated annually. Employees at the Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs licensed under HFS *40 must have either psychiatric nursing training or one (1) year of clinical experience with children.
