Job Description\n American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Rapid City, South Dakota.Job Description & Requirements\n \n Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit\n Discipline: RN\n Start Date: 09/28/2026\n Duration: 14 weeks\n 48 hours per week\n Shift: 12 hours, days\n Employment Type: Travel\n \n Assignment Overview\n \n Shift: Days, 4x12hrs\n Hours: 48 hrs/wk\n Start Date: Sep 28, 2026\n Length: 14 weeks\n Openings: 1\n Description\n American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 48-hour weekly contract requiring at least one prior travel assignment and 2 years of ICU experience.Details\n \n Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods\n Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with a heavy trauma population\n Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma\n Cardiac experience preferred, including 24-48 hr post-op CABG/TAVR care\n Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity\n 12-hour day shifts totaling 48 hours per week\n Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend but not guaranteed\n No on-call requirements\n Floating uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio if overstaffed\n ICU RNs may float to ED and PCU RNs may float to ICU depending on experience\n Epic used for charting, required for both ED and ICU\n Alaris pumps in use, transitioning to Baxter pumps in October\n Omnicell system used for medication management\n Requirements\n \n Active SD or compact RN license required\n Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required\n TNCC certification required, must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held\n Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience (1.5 years may be considered with manager approval if significant non-ICU RN experience exists)\n At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted\n Completion of an approved nursing education program\n Epic EMR experience required\n Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required\n Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required\n Strong critical thinking, assessment, and teamwork skills required\n Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred\n Must be comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract\n Additional Information\n \n Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, and 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage\n Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights\n Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines\n Resource nurse support available depending on staffing needs\n Orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation, iLearns, and floor shadow shifts\n May be expected to precept nursing students\n Navy scrub color required\n Free parking provided\n No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)\n Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must not shorten the required 13-week contract\n Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility\n Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler\n Facility is known for being very traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts\n \n \n American Traveler Job ID #P-753270.
