Pharmacy Technician I, OPDThe Pharmacy Department at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute places emphasis on the values of reliability, professionalism, cooperation, teamwork, communication, positivity and inclusiveness. The Pharmacy Technician I, OPD (Outpatient) is responsible for providing support to pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researcher, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.Responsibilities:Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standardsFills medication orders according to policy, while gaining proficiency with advanced prescriptionsEnsures timely delivery and/or completion of medication orders and/or suppliesUtilizes multiple systems such as EHR (Electronic Health Record, Inventory Management Systems and other systems to complete and document duties. Troubleshoot as necessaryMaintains the Pharmacy inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation of stock and expiration date checkingPerforms and documents quality control steps as required (e.g., barcode scanning, etc.)Performs cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assignedTrains other employees as assignedCommunicates and escalates issues or problemsPerforms other duties as assignedResponds to and manages questions from patients and triaging calls from providersManages assigned claims-related adjudication issues with occasional need for assistanceKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculationsAbility to utilize pharmacy technology systemsAbility to develop proficiency and mastery of compounding of non-sterile productsAbility to independently troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution or escalation to the appropriate resourceAbility to treat all others (fellow pharmacy staff, patients, nurses, providers, support personnel, etc.) with the utmost professionalism and respectAbility to effectively work within a collaborative team-focused environmentParticipate in department meetings and functions to promote a successful and efficient pharmacy workgroupAbility to effectively communicate both orally and in writingDemonstrated critical thinking skills (ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgment)Strong attention to detailMinimum Job Qualifications:The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. No prior work experience as a pharmacy technician is required. The position also requires Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
