Senior Compliance Associate – Construction

The Senior Compliance Associate – Construction supports and leads construction compliance activities across multiple projects, with a strong focus on prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, Davis-Bacon Act compliance, local and domestic content compliance, and robust document control and auditing processes. This role works largely independently to drive compliance milestones and deliverables, ensures information integrity within the construction project management system, and develops or refines processes to align with company standards. The Senior Compliance Associate also partners closely with Senior leaders and project stakeholders to lead key initiatives, provide subject matter expertise, and support a culture of continuous improvement in construction compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all construction compliance activities throughout the full project lifecycle to deliver compliance-related project deliverables on scope and on schedule with minimal oversight.
  • Manage workload and priorities across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring seamless milestone delivery to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in discussions with project stakeholders, third-party consultants, and customers regarding construction compliance matters.
  • Manage project deliverables across multiple contractors and scopes to ensure adherence to the overall project schedule.
  • Develop strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and serve as a trusted thought partner on each supported project.
  • Establish and lead regular project meetings and communications to ensure construction compliance deliverables are clearly defined, tracked, and met.
  • Identify and evaluate risks related to construction compliance, escalate issues appropriately, and work with stakeholders to develop and implement mitigation plans.
  • Leverage the construction project management system to provide accurate and timely project status updates related to compliance activities.
  • Document, memorialize, and drive implementation of best practices and lessons learned within the department, with an emphasis on change management and training.
  • Ensure comprehensive record keeping for each project by adhering to company document management policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and manage regulatory requirements that support construction tax benefits, including but not limited to Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship, Davis-Bacon Act, and Local and Domestic Content compliance.
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with contractors, third-party consultants, and internal stakeholders to support effective compliance execution.
  • Review and evaluate draft contracts and proposals to ensure appropriate compliance language is included, and provide clear edits and feedback to internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
  • Implement and manage document control processes to ensure compliance-related documents are accurate, organized, and easily accessible.
  • Partner with Senior leaders in the department and across the organization to develop and implement complex initiatives related to construction compliance.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior team members on their compliance-related initiatives and projects.
  • Conduct regular audits of internal processes to verify adherence to compliance requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for new team members as they onboard into the department, providing guidance on construction compliance practices and systems.
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders and leaders on compliance requirements, best practices, and process expectations, acting as a subject matter expert on construction compliance topics.
  • Set up and maintain projects within the construction project management system, ensuring data integrity and alignment with compliance requirements.
  • Create and generate reports, analyze compliance-related data, identify potential issues or trends, and propose practical solutions to Project Managers and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and coordination with other departments to ensure integrated and consistent compliance practices across projects.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a compliance, auditing, or regulatory role.
  • Experience in document control and/or process auditing.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in document control systems and auditing methodologies.
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out instructions and follow tasks through to completion with minimal direction.
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with project coordination, including working with multiple levels of interface between vendors, internal staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive milestones and deliverables with little to no oversight.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry or a renewable energy internship.
  • 1+ years of construction experience or a construction internship.
  • Experience with Prevailing Wage, Davis-Bacon Act, and Local Content compliance.
  • In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local regulations related to prevailing wage, apprenticeship programs, Davis-Bacon Act, and local content requirements.
  • Experience with construction project management systems, including setting up and maintaining projects and generating reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new processes and support change management initiatives.
  • Experience providing training and support to internal stakeholders and junior team members.
  • Exceptional solution-seeking mindset with the ability to identify issues proactively and propose effective solutions.

Work Environment:

This role is based in an office environment with a schedule of five days per week on site. You will work closely with project managers, compliance professionals, contractors, and cross-functional teams, using construction project management systems and document control tools on a daily basis. The position involves regular virtual and in-person meetings, structured documentation practices, and a strong emphasis on collaboration, communication, and adherence to established processes.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
