Registered Nurse in Neuro ICU

The position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Intensive Care Unit. This unit has a total of 18 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. Common patient diagnoses include ventriculostomies, strokes with or without tPA, and post-craniectomy care. Nurses are required to titrate drips based on physician orders. Various titratable and set-rate drips may be administered. A charge nurse is present on each shift, and they may take an assignment if staffing allows. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care techs are present on the unit with a ratio of 9:1. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices. Telemetry and monitor techs are on the unit, and nurses are required to read and interpret their own strips using Phillips monitors. Shifts are organized in 12-hour schedules. There is a requirement to work every other weekend and rotating holidays. Traveling nurses may float to any unit in the hospital, including intermediate and general floors. General floor staffing involves a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. A unit-specific orientation of 20 hours is included.

Must-Have:

• Ventriculostomy experience
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Experience with ventilators
• Experience with arterial lines
• Experience with central lines
• Experience with tPA
• Acute stroke management experience
• Post craniectomy experience

Experience: 1 year License: Active Illinois License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
