Job#: 3039608 Client: Centerpoint Energy Location: Williams Towers – Downtown Houston, TX Contract: Long term – open ended; possibility of fulltime conversion Job Title: Transmission Estimator - High Voltage Planning Support and Estimation Summary Responsible for developing preliminary cost estimates for transmission projects supporting system growth, load interconnections, reliability improvements, etc. This role combines engineering judgement, cost modeling, and cross-functional coordination to support transmission planning, project development, and capital budgeting activities. Job Responsibilities Develop preliminary (Class 3) cost estimates for transmission and substation projects based on planning inputs, studies, and conceptual designs Prepare detailed cost breakdowns by major components, such as labor, materials, ROW, and construction support Perform comparative cost evaluations across project alternatives Apply assumptions, contingencies, and historical cost data to support early-stage project decisions Evaluate transmission project scope including structure types, conductor configurations, foundation requirements, routing constraints, right-of-way acquisition, and environmental limitations Work closely with internal teams including Transmission Planning, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Project Managers and Transmission Operations Utilize and maintain estimating tools and spreadsheets based on historical project data and current cost inputs Update unit costs, assumptions, and methodologies based on actual project feedback and market conditions Contribute to standardization of estimating practices and cost tracking across projects Required Skills Experience in transmission, substation, or utility engineering/estimating Knowledge of high-voltage systems (138 kV and above) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and data. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Knowledge of industry standards and engineering best practices. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing Class 3 or planning-level estimates for utility infrastructure PLS-CADD Experience Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required.
