Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a GSOM Program Director - Part-Time. The Program Director serves as a senior strategic partner in the launch, direction, and operational development of MADE (Medtech Acceleration, Development, and Education) at NYU Langone Health, advising on overall program strategy, the development of its acceleration and venture‑studio functions, and the translation of clinical needs into commercially viable medical technologies. This is a fractional consulting engagement over an initial one‑year term, scoped at a minimum of 4 days per month and a not‑to‑exceed ceiling of 8 days per month. In addition to strategic guidance, the role carries a direct education and mentorship function, providing hands‑on teaching and guidance for the final year of the Department of Surgery's Medtech Pipeline Program as it transitions into the formal MADE Innovation Fellowship in 202728. Design of that Fellowship is a core deliverable of this engagement and is set out in the responsibilities below. Expansion of scope or title in subsequent years will be considered based on achievement of the deliverables and milestones defined below, and subject to available program funding. Nothing in this document constitutes a commitment to renewal or to an expanded role. Job Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serve as senior strategic advisor to the Lead and Executive Director on overall MADE program design, startup, and direction.
2. Partner with the Executive Director to design the MADE Innovation Fellowship launching in 202728, including curriculum structure, fellow selection criteria, project intake process, and milestone framework. A draft program design is due by 12/1/2026 and a final design by 5/1/2026.
3. Develop and document the project selection and portfolio criteria for the program's acceleration and venture‑studio functions, including a written build‑in‑house versus external‑partner framework, and apply that framework in the review of candidate projects.
4. Participate in portfolio review at a defined cadence, providing written go/no-go recommendations on candidate projects.
5. Provide expert guidance on translating clinical needs into commercially viable medical technologies, drawing on extensive venture-creation and commercialization experience, including assessment of regulatory pathway, reimbursement strategy, and freedom-to-operate considerations at project intake.
6. Provide direct educational leadership and mentorship for the final year of the Medtech Pipeline Program as it transitions into the formal MADE Innovation Fellowship, with a minimum of 40 contact hours per term.
7. Mentor trainees, fellows, and faculty in the medtech innovation and commercialization process, including direct mentorship of each active project team.
8. Facilitate connections to the external medtech ecosystem, including industry, investors, incubators, and strategic partners, in support of specific portfolio projects and program fundraising.
9. Define the program's success metrics and organizational readiness criteria for scaling, and report against them to the Executive Director and TOV leadership on a quarterly basis.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, AND CONFIDENTIALITY: Intellectual property conceived of or contributed to during the engagement is subject to NYU Langone Health IP policy. Inventorship and ownership terms, including any right to be named an inventor on NYU Langone IP, will be set out in the consulting agreement. Any equity, advisory shares, options, or board or advisory seat in a MADE-derived company requires prior written approval from TOV and NYU Langone Conflict of Interest review. The consultant must disclose all concurrent commercial affiliations, investments, and advisory relationships at the start of the engagement and update that disclosure as it changes. The consultant must recuse from evaluation, selection, or portfolio decisions involving any project or counterparty in which they hold a financial or advisory interest. The recusal process and decision log will be maintained by TOV. The consultant is bound by confidentiality covering unpublished invention disclosures, project data, and any information accessed through TOV systems, including Evolve. Access will be limited to what the engagement requires. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Extensive senior leadership experience (typically 15+ years) in medical technology venture creation, development, and commercialization, including founding and/or leading medical device companies from concept through market entry or exit. Demonstrated track record of successful medtech innovation, including invention/patents, company formation, and product commercialization. Experience mentoring and educating innovators, trainees, or early-stage entrepreneurs. Ability to operate effectively on a fractional, consulting basis while balancing concurrent external commitments. Ability to satisfy NYU Langone Conflict of Interest disclosure and recusal requirements given concurrent commercial affiliations. Preferred Qualifications: MD, PhD, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant clinical, scientific, engineering, or business discipline. Advanced degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience bridging industry and academia. Established network across medtech investors, incubators, and strategic acquirers. Prior experience designing or leading an innovation fellowship, accelerator, or venture studio in an academic medical center.
