Associate Vice Provost, Career and Professional Success & High Impact Practices

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its next Associate Vice Provost for Career and Professional Success (CaPS). This is an opportunity to shape how career development, workforce readiness, experiential learning, and career outcomes are integrated into the student experience at a leading public research university. Career and Professional Success supports UNH undergraduate and graduate students as they explore careers, make informed career decisions, develop professional and workforce skills, gain meaningful work-based experiences, and successfully transition to employment and graduate or professional school. The Associate Vice Provost will lead this important work at a time when preparing students for a rapidly changing workforce is increasingly central to the value and impact of higher education. Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice Provost will provide strategic vision and leadership for CaPS and build strong partnerships across UNH's academic colleges, departments, student success functions, alumni community, and senior leadership. The AVP will also expand and strengthen relationships with local, national, and international employers to create meaningful pathways between students and the world of work. The AVP will lead a talented team of approximately 23 professionals and steward the fiscal and physical resources of CaPS across UNH's campuses. The successful candidate will bring a student-centered and institution-wide perspective, with the ability to connect career development to academic programs, experiential learning, workforce needs, and long-term student success. The Associate Vice Provost will: Set the vision for career success at UNH. Articulate and advance a clear vision, mission, and strategy for CaPS that aligns with institutional priorities and positions career and workforce readiness as an integral part of the UNH student experience. Build a campus-wide culture of career development. Partner with academic leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, and student success professionals to integrate career exploration, professional development, and career readiness throughout students' academic journeys. Expand employer and workforce partnerships. Develop and sustain strategic relationships with employers and organizations locally, nationally, and internationally to expand internships, experiential learning, employment opportunities, and other meaningful connections between students and employers. Advance experiential learning. Strengthen and expand internships, work-based learning, and other high-impact experiences that prepare students for successful careers and connect classroom learning to the workplace. Drive measurable student outcomes. Establish meaningful metrics and assessment strategies focused on student engagement, participation in high-impact practices, career outcomes, and post-graduation success. Use data to identify opportunities, set priorities, and demonstrate impact to university and external stakeholders. Lead and develop a high-performing team. Provide strategic leadership to a 23-person professional staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, professional growth, and service excellence. Build institutional partnerships. Establish trusted and collaborative relationships with academic departments, colleges, senior leadership, and campus partners to advance shared goals for student success. Lead through change and innovation. Anticipate emerging workforce and student needs and translate those trends into innovative programs, services, and partnerships. Steward resources strategically. Provide responsible fiscal and operational leadership and identify opportunities for fundraising, external partnerships, and resource development to advance CaPS priorities. Champion access and belonging. Ensure that career development and professional opportunities are accessible and responsive to the diverse experiences, aspirations, and needs of UNH students. The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative leader who understands that career success is a shared institutional responsibility. They will be equally comfortable engaging a dean, faculty member, employer, student, alumni leader, or senior university administrator and will bring the credibility and relationship-building skills needed to move ideas from concept to implementation. Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree and 7-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, industry, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 15 years. Demonstrated success leading collaboratively and building strong relationships across complex organizations. Experience leading, developing, and retaining high-performing professional teams.
