About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director for Development in Academic Medical Centers. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in all philanthropic initiatives that support the integrated missions of clinical excellence, biomedical research, and graduate medical education. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive major and principal gift program, personally managing a portfolio of significant donor relationships, and partnering with medical center leadership to identify and articulate compelling cases for philanthropic support. The Executive Director will also oversee a team of development professionals, contribute to the development of annual budgets and long-range campaign plans, and ensure that the medical center's position as a national leader in medicine and medical education is advanced through successful fundraising efforts. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years' experience in major gift fundraising, with at least 5 years in an academic medical center or comparable institution. A proven track record of closing gifts of $1 million or more, deep familiarity with the academic medicine environment, and experience in endowment and planned giving are essential. The role requires the ability to translate complex scientific and clinical concepts into donor narratives, as well as the capacity to lead and inspire a team in a mission-driven organization. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, politically astute, and highly collaborative, with a passionate commitment to the mission of academic medicine. Experience with donor management systems and excellent communication skills are also necessary.
