AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government. Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Marketing Student Assistant. This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $17.32 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. STUDENT MARKETING ASSISTANT SUMMARY Under the direction of the AS Marketing and Design Department (ASMD), this position is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing content marketing strategies and promotional services for the business and service programs of the Associated Students. Applicants interested in this role MUST be available for mandatory training in Chico beginning Monday, August 10. Training will be Monday-Friday August 10-21. TYPICAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Works with the Marketing team to develop and manage social media promotions for the Associated Students social media channels. Manages and implements content calendar for social channels and attend events for social media coverage. Acts as primary “spokesperson” for social media promotions. Must be comfortable with the idea of being in front of a camera. Coordinates promotion of events and initiatives through development of comprehensive content plans and through the use of social media platforms and other campus platforms, such as: CatsConnect, campus and student announcements, text notifications, updates for AS website, calendar entries, blog posts, and mentions in The Latest. Collaborates with the design team to create compelling graphics for marketing campaigns. Meet with ASMD team to discuss content needs throughout the semester. Works with ASMD team to determine specific outreach needs, such as tabling, class talks, whiteboard blitzes, if any requested. Attends staff meetings as directed. Other duties may be assigned. REPORTS TO Marketing Manager CLASSIFICATIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED None TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an office environment, continuous contact with staff, campus community and public. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; verbal communication, use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers and fax. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of : Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Basic graphic design tools such as Canva preferred. Social media management tools such as Hootsuite or Buffer preferred. Iconosquare knowledge a plus. Ability to : Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Develop and coordinate marketing and promotion strategies. Write copy to meet marketing objectives with excellent grammar and punctuation. Use computer and applicable software for word processing and basic graphic design. Develop and schedule social media campaigns for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Track analytics across communication channels. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, co-workers, public, and those contacted during the course of work. Work independently, sometimes with minimal supervision. Work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Experience: Majoring in Marketing, Journalism/Public Relations, Communications/New Media, Graphic Design, Video Production, or any other relevant field preferred. Experience within the Associated Students preferred.
