San Francisco, California Physician Assistant - Neurological Surgery Locum Tenens
Support • Outpatient • Neuro-Spine

Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking California-licensed Physician Assistants for a locum tenens opportunity at an academic medical center in San Francisco, California. This role involves outpatient neuro-spine surgery patient management, supporting surgeons and physiatrists within a busy clinic setting.

Opportunity Highlights

• Physician Assistant in outpatient neuro-spine surgery clinic
• Support team of 7 APPs, 5 surgeons, and 2 physiatrists
• Support daily clinic volume of 20-26 adult patients
• No inpatient, no operating room time, all outpatient setting
• Epic EMR system used throughout

Schedule Details

• Start: ASAP for approximately 25 weeks
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• No weekends or holidays required

Clinical Scope

• Manage outpatient neurosurgery spine patients, including consults, follow-ups, and post-op care
• Conduct independent patient exams, triage calls, and support imaging orders
• Perform common outpatient procedures such as staple and drain removal, wound care, and injections (if experienced in trigger points, hips, or knees)
• Collaborate with surgical team, supporting surgeons in post-op management and follow-up care
• Manage all documentation in Epic EMR

This opportunity is based within a renowned academic medical center in San Francisco, California. The outpatient neuro-spine clinic supports both surgical and non-surgical spine patients, with APPs providing essential clinical support to a team of spine specialists in a university-affiliated setting.

Requirements

• CA NP license or PA license; open to licensed PAs
• DEA registration with schedule 2 and 2N
• BLS certification required
• At least 2-3 years of experience in neuro-spine surgery, orthopedic spine, or pain management with spine patients
• Strong outpatient experience with thorough neuro-spine case background
• Proficiency with Epic EMR

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with spine injections such as trigger points, hips, and knees
• Academic medical center experience preferred
