Experience as a bus mechanic. Training and experience on diesel and gasoline engines. Experience in supervision of personnel. Basic communications and computational skills. Must meet the physical requirements of position. Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. SALARY: $79,900.00

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor

Overall Responsibility

To supervise and assist in the repair/maintenance of all school vehicles to ensure safe, efficient and uninterrupted transportation of students

Essential Areas of Responsibility

1. Determines and supervises the duties and work hours of all mechanics.

2. Evaluates all mechanics and prepares recommendations for reemployment.

3. Keeps a log on each vehicle including service, work performed, parts used, date worked on and costs incurred.

4. Keeps drivers informed regarding the maintenance status of their vehicles.

5. Participates in the interview of all new candidates for employment as a mechanic.

6. Orders all tools, parts and supplies necessary for maintaining automotive equipment.

7. Makes recommendations to the Transportation Supervisor regarding a budget for the following year.

8. Assumes responsibility for keeping the buses in good, safe, working condition including responsibility for the return of disabled vehicles.

9. Recommends which buses shall be traded in each year and recommends the number of replacements.

10. Makes recommendations for changes in specifications for new buses.

11. Works closely with the Division of Motor Vehicles to insure that all buses are properly inspected.

12. Assumes responsibility for the general maintenance of the garage, including snow removal of grounds. Coordinates other garage repairs with the maintenance department.

13. Assumes responsibility for security and maintenance of all tools and equipment used in vehicle maintenance operations and security in opening and closing of the garage.

14. Reports to the Transportation Supervisor those drivers who do not properly maintain their assigned bus with regard to cleanliness, first echelon maintenance and/or neglect.

15. Meets regularly with the Transportation Supervisor to review bus maintenance.

16. Reports and forwards all refunds for obsolete parts, used oil, used batteries and scrap metal to the Business Administrator.

17. Works with the Transportation Supervisor in developing in-service programs for drivers regarding vehicle maintenance.

18. Maintains an orderly, safe shop area.

19. Performs all responsibilities in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner.

20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor which shall fall within the scope of his/her employment.

Terms of Employment

12 month contract Salary and fringe benefits as negotiated with the Support Staff Administrators Association and the Pemberton Township Board of Education.
