The Pharmacy Technician – Oncology supports a large inpatient infusion pharmacy located on the hospital campus. Caregivers in this role focus on compounding sterile preparations throughout the day while supporting inventory management and ensuring medications and supplies are ordered and available to meet the needs of the pharmacy and patients.

A caregiver in this role will work an 8 hour shift, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am and 4:30pm. No weekend, no holidays and no on call expectations.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.

• Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
\n

\n
• Maintain accurate and appropriate inventory of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
\n

\n
• Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training.  
\n

\n
• Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
\n

\n
• Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 
\n

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

\n
• High School Diploma/GED 
\n

\n
• Current licensure in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician 
\n

\n
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 18 months of hire 
\n

\n
• Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds 
\n

\n
• Basic computer skills 
\n

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

\n
• Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program 
\n

\n
• Six months of hospital experience 
\n
• IV compounding or sterile compounding experience
\n
• Inpatient experience
\n

Physical Requirements:

\n
• \n

  Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
