Job Title: Machinist / Sheet Metal Assembly Mechanic

Job Description

This role combines hands-on machining with sheet metal assembly work in an aircraft and aerospace manufacturing environment. You will operate production machines, perform precision sheet metal assembly, and help meet growing backlog demands on a first-shift schedule. The position is based in Wichita, Kansas within an assembly and machining division that supports aviation suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor sheet metal and machining equipment safely and efficiently during first-shift operations (Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
• Perform complex and varied aircraft/aerospace assemblies using sheet metal components and related hardware.
• Read and interpret detailed blueprints, specifications, and work instructions to plan and execute assembly and machining tasks accurately.
• Lay out and drill precision holes in sheet metal and structural components, ensuring correct location, size, and alignment.
• Install fasteners, bearings, bushings, and other mechanical hardware according to engineering and quality requirements.
• Perform countersinking operations and other metal preparation steps to meet structural and cosmetic standards.
• Apply sealants, primers, paints, and cleaning agents in accordance with process specifications and safety guidelines.
• Use a variety of hand tools and power tools to carry out mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks.
• Measure parts and assemblies with tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Collaborate with team members in the machine shop and assembly areas to support production schedules and backlog reduction.
• Demonstrate consistent on-time attendance, strong work ethic, and attention to detail in all aspects of the job.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of three years of experience in aircraft or aerospace manufacturing assembly, including complex and varied assemblies.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and other technical work instructions.
• High level of proficiency with layout and drilling of holes, including accurate placement and alignment.
• Strong experience installing fasteners, bearings, bushings, and performing countersinking operations.
• Hands-on experience applying sealants, primers, paints, and cleaning agents used in assembly processes.
• Skilled in the use of common hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly and sheet metal work.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise machining and assembly tasks.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and to stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, and walk on a regular basis.
• Commitment to wearing gloves, eye protection, ear protection, and following all safety procedures at all times.
• Strong work ethic, drive to achieve high levels of performance, and dependable on-time attendance.
• Detail-oriented approach to work, with a focus on quality and accuracy in assembly and machining.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of assembly experience required; four to five years of experience preferred.
• Experience in aerospace manufacturing or aviation supplier environments.
• Experience as a sheet metal assembly mechanic or assembly mechanic in a production setting.
• Comfort working with mechanical assemblies, production processes, and blueprint-driven work.
• Ability to use tape measures and basic mechanical measurement tools accurately.
• Experience working in a machine shop or assembly environment is highly beneficial.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop and assembly environment within an aerospace manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kansas. You will work in a clean, well-maintained, and modern production area that supports both sheet metal assembly and machining operations. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. Work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and assembly equipment, as well as handling sealants, primers, paints, and cleaning agents in accordance with safety procedures. Personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye protection, and ear protection, must be worn at all times, and adherence to established safety protocols is essential.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $52000.00/yr.
