HR Assistant

AscendHR, a PEO located in Beckley, WV, is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our team. Job Summary: This role plays a vital role in human resources functions and ensures overall client satisfaction. Through client partnerships, develops and maintains an ongoing positive relationship and assists with HR needs. Works collaboratively with internal partners to ensure quality client services and support and provides administrative support to the HR department. Roles & Responsibilities: Acts with the highest level of honesty, trust, character and transparency while providing excellent customer service to clients, employees, and field partners Improves client retention by building and maintaining a client relationship based on trust and dependability, quality service, and exceeding client expectations Under the direction of the VP of Administration & HR: Provides best practice guidance on all areas of HR including but not limited to compliance; employee relations; employee handbooks, policies and procedures; disciplinary matters; compensation, benefits, and leave; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development Researches and assists in the appropriate resolution of client issues and concerns; provides customized HR solutions in accordance with internal standards and HR best practices, ensuring prompt issue resolution and timely follow-up Tracks and reports on compliance training progress and certifications Assists in the development of training content for both in‑person and virtual training opportunities Partners with team members to ensure a smooth implementation/onboarding experience for new clients and newly hired employees Conducts HR Assessments for new or existing clients to highlight areas requiring attention and provides appropriate guidance for process improvement and compliance Assists in Leave Management programs to ensure compliance Reviews and/or produces employee handbooks, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and assists with the development of new policies and procedures Assists with the development of corrective action notices and performance improvement plans, and provides guidance for disciplinary meetings, investigations, etc. Provides administrative support for HR department Works collaboratively with internal partners to ensure quality client services and support; fosters teamwork and a positive work environment Maintains and consistently increases knowledge of HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources disciplines Special projects as assigned Qualifications Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management or related field is preferred Strong HR foundational understanding, with a minimum of 2 years of experience within human resources and/or management Knowledge of all HR facets including general HR, training and development, compliance, benefits administration, payroll, risk management, retirement services, and client support PHR or SHRM certification is strongly preferred (required within first year of employment) Excellent computer skills, fully proficient in MS Office, as well as HRIS software and LMS systems Detail‑oriented, problem solver, critical thinker; ability to successfully manage multiple priorities at the same time A high degree of personal integrity and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are a must Benefits Competitive compensation packages Health, dental, and vision insurance other supplemental options Paid time off and paid holidays Professional development Career growth opportunities within a growing HR organization Collaborative and supportive team environment Work alongside certified HR, payroll, and benefits professionals Exposure to multiple industries and business operations Modern HR technology and integrated systems Employee‑focused, relationship‑driven company culture Opportunity to make a direct impact on small and mid‑sized businesses Stable and growing woman‑owned company Work‑life balance and flexible, team‑oriented environment Ongoing training in HR, payroll, compliance, and benefits administration Opportunity to work with experienced leadership and industry experts #J-18808-Ljbffr
