Return-to-Work Specialist

Primary Purpose To negotiate, facilitate, and monitor successful return‑to‑work of claimants within appropriate disability duration guidelines; to determine specific physical tolerances and vocational skills required for specific employment positions; to assist case management staff with client competence decisions for individual positions; to contact employers to gather specific job site/employment information and prepare related reports; to assist with job site modification and/or obtaining adaptive equipment; and to ensure medical, legal and accreditation standards are maintained. Essential Responsibilities Determine objective, quantifiable, medically supported work restrictions for assigned claims. Facilitate RTW efforts through negotiation with client, treatment provider and claimant; complete all vocational/RTW related documentation, notification or reporting. Document client contact in claim notes as per Sedgwick CMS standards and assist case management staff in competence decisions. Adhere to medical and legal regulations and accreditation standards in written communication. Develop contacts with company managers to introduce program and represent client. Contact employers to gather employment details (training, physical demands, wages, benefits, availability) and ascertain specific physical tolerances and vocational skills needed. Assist in modifying job sites or obtaining required adaptive equipment. Communicate with co‑workers regarding specific employment areas to provide labor trend updates. Maintain regular contact with clients after placement, review progress and suggest changes to rehabilitation plans. Work closely with team members to ensure smooth transition from medical case management to job placement. Prepare reports documenting research results. Perform additional vocational evaluation and work adjustment tasks as needed. Education and Licensing • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation preferred.
