Assistant Director, Academic Services

Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The Assistant Director provides comprehensive academic advising, monitoring, and developmental support to student-athletes at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position works directly with high-profile varsity programs, serving as the primary academic counselor for Women's Basketball and other Olympic or varsity sport programs (assigned based on department needs). The successful candidate will assist student-athletes in navigating academic progress, degree completion, career planning and personal development while ensuring strict adherence to University of Maryland, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Physical Demands: The position requires prolonged sitting and computer use, as well as the ability to operate standard office equipment with manual dexterity. The role involves occasional standing or walking to attend meetings or conduct orientations and may require lifting light office materials (up to 20 pounds). Visual acuity and effective verbal and auditory communication are essential for interacting with staff, coaches, and student-athletes in person, by phone, or virtually. Licenses/ Certifications: NA Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of experience in a professional setting. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administrative structure and responsibilities. Knowledge of athletics policies and procedures and federal, state, and other applicable, related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products. Ability to multitask and prioritize within unit and department environment as well manage large-scale athletics-related projects. Additional Job Details Preferences: Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field. Prior experience directly supporting high-visibility or high-demand Division I sports programs (e.g., Men's/Women's Basketball, Football). Active membership in N4A (National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals). Familiarity with student success software and campus systems (e.g., Navigate, Canvas, SIS/Testudo).
