Position Summary

The Line Cook runs the hot food and sandwich station on Ophelia's food truck, cooking and plating every order to Ophelia's exact specifications with speed and consistency. This is a role for an experienced cook who knows how to run a station during a rush: someone who brings strong restaurant fundamentals, including knife skills, mise en place, ticket management, and food safety habits, from day one. The Line Cook also helps get the truck on the road each day by loading the van, driving to the service location, and returning it to the commissary at the end of the shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Run the hot line and sandwich station, cooking and assembling breakfast sandwiches, hot items, and menu specials to recipe specifications

• Operate the flat-top, grill, panini press, ovens, and other cooking equipment safely and efficiently

• Read and manage tickets during rush periods, keeping orders moving accurately and on time

• Prepare and maintain full mise en place before service, including slicing, portioning, and cooking proteins and components

• Hold every plate to Ophelia's standards for taste, temperature, portioning, and presentation

• Load and set up the van with pastries, ingredients, and all supplies needed to run the truck for the shift

• Safely drive the van to and from the service location

• Return the van to the commissary at the end of the shift and hand off dirty dishes, pans, and equipment to the dishwasher station

• Follow proper food handling procedures, including product rotation (FIFO), labeling, storage, and temperature control

• Keep a clean, organized station throughout service and complete full breakdown, cleaning, and storage at the end of each day

• Coordinate with packers and cashiers so orders are completed accurately and on time

• Track ingredient levels and prep needs, and communicate replenishment needs to the kitchen and management

• Share feedback on recipes, prep methods, and station setup to improve speed and quality

• Help train and support newer team members on station setup and procedures

Other Duties as Assigned

This job description reflects the primary responsibilities of the role but is not exhaustive. Team members may be asked to take on additional tasks or duties as needed to support day-to-day operations, the commissary kitchen, special events, catering, pop-ups, or other business needs.

Qualifications & Skills

• 3+ years of line cook experience in a restaurant, café, brunch, or high-volume kitchen

• Experience working the hot line, including flat-top, grill, and sauté; breakfast or brunch line experience strongly preferred

• Proven ability to manage multiple tickets and keep a station running during a rush

• Strong knife skills, cooking techniques, and understanding of mise en place

• Strong food safety knowledge, including rotation, storage, temperature control, and sanitation; Food Handler certification required, ServSafe a plus

• Comfortable working in a tight, fast-paced kitchen space such as a food truck

• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record

• Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented, especially around opening and closing procedures

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; Ophelia does not provide visa sponsorship for this position

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand for extended periods in a hot kitchen environment

• Ability to lift and carry food supplies and equipment (up to ~25 lbs)

• Comfortable working near heat sources (flat-top, grills, ovens, panini presses)

• Ability to sit and drive for periods of time as part of the shift

Weekend & Schedule Availability

Ophelia operates as a mobile bakery with peak demand on weekends and around morning service hours. This role may require availability to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) as part of the schedule, along with flexibility for early morning shifts, holidays, and occasional schedule changes based on business needs (special events, catering, pop-ups).
