JOB SUMMARY

Nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties in a small to large clinic or specialty office. Responsibilities include clinical and administrative tasks such as assisting physicians, handling clerical work, maintaining the environment, and supporting patient care.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care Responsibilities: Rooming patients Collecting histories Charting Answering phone calls Completing forms Clerical Duties: Prepping clinics Obtaining test results Updating charts Verifying insurance Obtaining authorizations Coordinating referrals and appointments Fulfills EOC Responsibilities: Cleaning exam rooms Ordering and stocking supplies and restocking exam rooms Cleaning exam tables Maintaining a safe work environment by checking for expired supplies, medications, and emptying sharps containers Organizational Duties: Promoting patient rights Responding to emergency codes Following HR, Compliance, and Joint Commission policies Additional duties may include state‑law responsibilities such as autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders based on physician protocols, handling biohazard waste, blood drawing, applying DME, removing casts, applying basic splints and casts, and fitting DME products. Other duties as assigned by the manager or HCA.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

One year of orthopaedic experience preferred. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP or ABHES) strongly preferred. High school diploma or GED required. Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA‑CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required. BLS required (Level I – no experience required; Level II – one year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting).
