The position works 40 Weeks per year, 5 days per week at 4 hours per day, following the school calendar. Bus attendants can also pick up routes throughout the day for additional pay! SALARY: Year Hourly Rate 1 $13.75 2 $14.27 3 $14.80 4 $15.35 5 $15.89 6 $16.37 7 $16.85 8 $17.34 9 $17.86 10 $18.62 A year of service annual increase will be provided to employees who have completed 120 working days in a paid status per school year based on the board approved salary schedule. New employees begin on year 1. BENEFITS: EVSC offers four (4) Anthem medical insurance plans. Single medical, dental and vision insurance are provided with this position. Click here to view the rates for each plan. If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 30-day probationary period.
Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSC Health & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member.

This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan.
Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity.

The Bus Attendant assists in providing safe, orderly, and efficient transportation for students, including students with disabilities and special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist the bus driver in safely transporting students, including students with disabilities and special needs.
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts and securement systems.
- Ensure wheelchairs, safety harnesses, and other specialized equipment are properly secured during transport.
- Maintain appropriate student behavior and support a safe, orderly environment on the bus.
- Remain alert to hazardous conditions in loading and unloading areas and assist in ensuring student safety at all times.
- Communicate professionally and appropriately with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and transportation staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information, including addresses, medical information, and educational records, in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Become familiar with the individual needs, behaviors, and emergency procedures for students with special needs.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations, including effective use of the two-way radio and emergency communication procedures.
- Assist the driver with emergency evacuation procedures and student safety during emergencies.
- Assist with the handling and administration procedures of student medication during transportation, in accordance with district policy and training requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of basic first aid procedures.
- Participate in required training and professional development related to student transportation and safety.
- Faithfully perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the employment contract and follow all supervisory directives and district policies.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Build positive relationships with students and encourages them to reach their full potential.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Ability to pass state skill test, state written test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Ability to physically manage students and equipment.
- Be able to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with EVSC employees, vendors, and community partners in a teamwork-driven environment

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand.
- Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.
- Frequently will reach above the head and forward.
- Frequently uses hand strength to grasp equipment or students.
- Occasionally the employee must be able to drive to meet the bus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds such as students or students in wheel chairs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision, distance, and color.
- They must be able to hear and talk to parents, students and faculty.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
- The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
- The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
