What You'll Do

• Machine Connectivity Across the Fleet: Build and own the connectivity layer across the AM fleet — PC-based machine control systems, PLC-based subsystems, and vendor interfaces alike — including the log, file, and tag-level extraction required where no standard interface exists.

• Canonical Data Model and Schema Governance: Own the schemas, tag dictionaries, naming conventions, units, and versioning that let one integration pattern scale across platforms and sites. Govern schema change so downstream consumers do not break.

• Pipelines and Storage: Design, build, and operate the telemetry and build data pipelines — transport, stream processing, buffering, and persistence into relational and time-series storage — with the uptime, backfill, and data integrity guarantees that qualification evidence depends on.

• Machine State Models and OPUS Integration: Own how a machine reports what it is doing, how work is dispatched to it, and how each build record ties to part, powder lot, machine, and operator for end-to-end traceability.

• Requirements and Interface Baseline: Define the interface, control, and data requirements; flow them down to OEMs and to internal engineering; verify what is delivered against them; and hold the change-controlled interface control documents — state models, command semantics, telemetry dictionaries, alarm and error handling, and version history — so every integration is specified before it is built, reproducible across machines and sites, and enforceable with vendors as their platforms and firmware evolve.

• Supplementary Instrumentation: Instrument what the OEM does not expose. Specify and integrate supplementary sensing, edge compute, and data acquisition where native machine data is insufficient for process monitoring or engineering investigation.

• OT Network and Controller Accreditation: Partner with IT and Security to get machine controllers onto a compliant network — segmentation, remote access, patch and firmware change paths, and controller accreditation under NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC.

• Safety State Integration: Integrate machine and cell safety state into the control and platform layer, and validate interlock behavior against aerospace and defense production requirements, in coordination with the Automation & Robotics Engineer and site EHS.

• Commissioning and Acceptance Support: Support commissioning, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) from a controls and connectivity standpoint, ensuring each machine meets the Hadrian integration standard before production release.

• Build Preparation Toolchain Handoff: Support the build preparation and slicing toolchain integration path — the handoff from build preparation software into machine execution and back into the manufacturing record — in partnership with Application Engineering and the software team.

• OEM Technical Relationships: Establish and maintain OEM relationships covering interface and data access, controller and firmware change management, calibration hooks, and serviceability — including holding vendors to the agreed interface requirements through platform and firmware changes.

• Qualification Data Foundation: Supply the data integrity, audit trail, and configuration control support the System Qualification Engineer needs for installation and operational qualification, and that Materials and Process and Application Engineering need for performance qualification.

• Structured Problem Solving: Lead structured problem-solving on integration, connectivity, and data anomalies using 8D, 5 Whys, and corrective action driven to verified closure.
  

What we're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field.

• 5+ years connecting production manufacturing equipment to higher-level software systems — MES, SCADA, historian, or equipment and data platforms — with direct hands-on ownership of the integration rather than oversight of an integrator.

• Hands-on fluency with industrial machine communication: OPC-UA and MQTT, plus at least one PLC platform at the tag and program level. Siemens S7 and TIA Portal strongly preferred; PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus equivalents considered. Working familiarity with MTConnect and REST APIs.

• Demonstrated ability to integrate proprietary or undocumented OEM interfaces — working out log formats, file drops, and vendor data access where no standard protocol is available.

• Strong database engineering: relational schema design and SQL fluency, plus practical experience with time-series or historian storage for high-rate machine data. Schema migration and versioning experience required.

• Experience designing and operating data pipelines in production — message transport, stream or batch processing, and monitoring of the pipeline itself.

• Working proficiency in Python or equivalent for integration, parsing, and data tooling, with version control and code review discipline.

• Experience implementing or validating safety interlock systems in a production manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated ability to define technical interface and data requirements, flow them down to equipment vendors and internal engineering teams, verify delivered systems against them, and keep change-controlled interface documentation current as those systems evolve.

• Ability to work on site full time in Torrance, California, and to travel to Hadrian deployment sites and OEM facilities — up to 25% [CONFIRM].

• Must be a U.S. person for ITAR purposes — a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or otherwise eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
  

What Will Set You Apart

• Experience with metal additive manufacturing equipment — LPBF controller architecture, laser and scanner control, or in-process monitoring.

• Experience integrating equipment into MES or factory data platforms in aerospace or defense production.

• Experience with AM process data: in-situ monitoring, melt pool sensing, layer imaging, or scanner and galvanometer telemetry.

• Experience with OT network architecture and security in a regulated or defense manufacturing environment, including NIST SP 800-171 or CMMC.

• Exposure to polymer AM platforms alongside metal.

• Familiarity with aerospace and defense AM qualification data requirements — AMS7032, US Navy, or NIAR/NCAMP.

• Experience supporting installation and operational qualification from a controls and data integrity perspective.
