Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic financial services team. In this role, you will evaluate mortgage loan applications, analyze borrower financial data, and assess risk to ensure compliance with lending standards. Your expertise will help facilitate responsible lending decisions while supporting our commitment to providing exceptional service to our clients. Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including income verification, credit reports, and property appraisals
- Conduct thorough risk assessments utilizing financial concepts such as cash flow analysis, financial modeling, and credit analysis
- Evaluate borrower financial data through data collection and quantitative research techniques to determine loan eligibility
- Apply underwriting guidelines and policies to make informed lending decisions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
- Collaborate with loan officers and other team members to clarify application details and support the loan processing workflow
- Utilize financial software tools for data entry, report writing, and documentation of underwriting decisions
- Assist in fraud prevention and detection efforts by identifying suspicious activities or inconsistencies in loan applications
Requirements
- Proven experience in underwriting within the mortgage or financial services industry, with familiarity in loan origination and processing
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, including forecasting, risk analysis, and technical accounting principles
- Proficiency in financial software applications and tools used for data collection, modeling, and report writing
- Excellent math skills coupled with a solid grasp of banking concepts, credit analysis, and portfolio management strategies
- Ability to interpret complex financial statements and perform quantitative analysis effectively
- Knowledge of mortgage servicing processes, tax considerations, and fraud prevention techniques is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills for clear documentation and collaboration with team members
- Demonstrated attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk assessment and decision-making
