Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Two position available Department: Student and Family Services Reports To: Director of Student Services Receives Guidance From: Supervising Speech Language Pathologist, Department of Student and Family Services Position Inventory: B23 Position Type: PARA FLSA Status: Non Exempt FT/PT: Full Time Days: 190 Calendar Days Hours: 7.5 Hour Day Basic Function: The Speech-language pathology assistant provides certain language, articulation, voice and fluency activities as assigned by the supervising speech-language pathologist as denoted in Iowa Administrative Rules of Special Education 41.403(2). Essential Functions: Conduct speech-language screenings, as directed by the supervising SLP. Follow and deliver treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP. Document patient/client performance. Assist supervising SLP during assessment. Assist with informal documentation, preparing materials and other clerical duties. Schedule activities as directed by the supervising SLP. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment. Participate in professional development provided by or through the district. Serve as an advocate for all children and youth. Demonstrate cultural competence and behaviors consistent with the core values, vision and mission of Des Moines Public Schools. Hiring Specifications: Bachelor's degree in speech pathology, communications disorders or education from a recognized training institution or enrollment in a speech-language pathology program. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Basic computer skills including internet, email, and word processing. Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
