Clinical Polysomnographic Technician

Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Polysomnographic Technician to perform overnight sleep studies and support the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. In this role, you’ll monitor patients, collect and interpret data, and ensure a safe, comfortable environment throughout the testing process.Every detail you observe and every connection you make—with your patients, your clinical team, and your work—matters. Your expertise helps uncover the root causes of serious health concerns, leading to better outcomes and better rest for those we serve.Primary Department, Division, or Unit:UHS Sleep and Neurodiagnostic CenterWork Shift and Schedule:This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager.Compensation Range:$30.58 - $45.86 per hour, depending on experienceThis position is not eligible for benefits.-Sign-On Incentives:Up to a $15,000 sign-on bonus for candidates who meet eligibility criteria. Talk with your recruiter to learn more.Job ResponsibilitiesReview patient medical records to confirm and interpret sleep study orders, ensuring alignment with clinical indications and appropriate study protocolsExplain the sleep study process, including setup and monitoring procedures, to patients and caregivers; answer questions to promote comfort and cooperationPrepare and apply electrodes, sensors, and other monitoring equipment following AASM guidelines and organizational protocolsInitiate and perform overnight polysomnographic recordings, including diagnostic, titration, and split-night studies, in compliance with policy and AASM standardsContinuously observe and analyze sleep stages, breathing patterns, cardiac activity, limb movements, and other physiological data; intervene as neededAdminister CPAP, BiPAP, or other respiratory therapies during titration or split-night studies according to physician orders and patient responseDocument observations, interventions, and patient behaviors during the study in real time; ensure all data is recorded accuratelyWake the patient upon study completion, remove all sensors and electrodes, and assist with post-study hygiene and comfort as neededScore collected data using AASM scoring manual guidelines, prioritizing accuracy and timelinessParticipate in monthly inter-scorer reliability activities to ensure consistency and accuracy in scoringNotify the Medical Director, Clinical Manager, or Physician Assistant of any significant or adverse changes in the patient’s condition during the studyAssist in the orientation and training of new technicians by demonstrating procedures and sharing knowledgePosition QualificationsMinimum Required:Associates Degree or Certification from an Accredited School in Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy.NY State License: Registered Polysomnographic Technician OR Respiratory TherapistReceive CPR within one (1) week of start date.Preferred:Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.-About United Health ServicesUnited Health Services (UHS) is a locally owned, not-for-profit healthcare system in New York’s Southern Tier comprising four hospitals, long-term care and home care services, and physician practices in Broome and surrounding counties.
