Closing Date: 06/02/2026 Job Req ID: 851 Division: Employee & Empowerment Program Interns Job Description Assist CMFE staff on project‑based tasks by conducting research and helping review and organize documents such as as‑builts, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) reports, and site inspection data. The intern will also support CMFE in preparing construction‑related reports, cost analysis, and/or spreadsheets, all performed under the direction of an Associate Civil Engineer. Overview The City of San Diego offers internships in the Construction Management & Field Engineering Division to provide part‑time employment opportunities for students enrolled in a continuing education, traditional education, or training program. Interns gain hands‑on experience related to their career interests or area of study under general supervision. Example Of Duties Assist with planning events. Conduct research and collect data. Analyze data and assist with projects. Prepare reports and presentations. Attend internal and external stakeholder meetings. Perform field work as assigned. Minimum Requirements Must be 15½ years of age or older. Must be a United States citizen or have the current legal right to work in the United States. Must be enrolled in a continuing education, traditional education, or training program. Requirements may vary by department and specific internship role. Must meet grant criteria for funding. Compensation & Benefits Internships may be paid or unpaid; paid internships are compensated hourly according to Exhibit C of the Salary Ordinance. No paid vacation leave, paid holidays, or City‑sponsored insurance for interns. Participation in the City’s Defined Benefit Plan administered by the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS). Free transit pass covering MTS Trolley, MTS Bus, and all Rapid and Rapid Express services.
