Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Geriatric Profession: Nursing Specialty: Psychiatric Geriatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 3 years License: Valid State RN license Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Excellent mathematical and analytical skills Description: A registered nurse (RN) executes comprehensive nursing care activities on the geropsychiatric unit. This position is responsible for assessing, monitoring, recording, and reporting symptoms or changes in patient conditions. RNs are required to maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories. They perform mental and physical assessments, administer medications and treatments to patients, provide assistance to patients with daily activities, and observe reactions. RNs are responsible for managing activities within the therapeutic milieu, including daily groups, education, 1:1 interactions with individual patients, and collaborating with other members of the treatment team to ensure the best possible care for the patients. They complete individualized treatment plans for each patient upon admission and ongoing with the multidisciplinary treatment team. The RN will plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities for patients. They conduct therapies in accordance with the patients' diagnosis and needs. RNs perform treatment interventions following physician orders such as medication administration and medical treatment orders. They collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary team members, and outside health and social agencies. Efficient discharge plans are provided, and accurate histories at admission are obtained. The RN will complete all required documentation relevant to patients in a timely and efficient manner. This includes, but is not limited to, admission paperwork, assessments (mental and physical), and progress notes. Other skills required include excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. The RN will assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and regulatory standards.
