HVAC Technician I (Facilities Maintenance Division)

Under general supervision, the individual is responsible for complex and non-routine maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment. Work is performed independently in accordance with general instructions or planned preventive maintenance schedules. Exercises no supervision. Work Location Darner - Parks and Recreation Headquarters, 5800 Historic Old Highway 90, San Antonio, Texas 78227 Work Schedule 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate weekends, holiday shift work, and rotating on-call schedules as dictated by business needs. Responsibilities Troubleshoots, repairs, installs and maintains a variety of heating and air conditioning equipment. Removes pumps and performs maintenance work, may frequently lift/carry up to 30 pounds to operate HVAC maintenance equipment. Adjusts and calibrates temperature control devices. Assists more senior technicians in chiller and boiler inspections; performs preventive maintenance. Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs. Gives technical advice and guidance as needed. Installs new equipment according to provided instructions. Performs water treatment analysis. Adjusts and maintains chemical feed systems. Initiates requisitions for parts and supplies. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). One (1) year work experience maintaining and repairing heating and air conditioning equipment. Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License. Must certify with the State of Texas as Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician within six (6) months of employment. Preferred Qualifications Ability to read and write in English. Basic computer skills. Experience with a work order system such as CRM/SAP. One (1) year of experience with chilled water cooling systems. One (1) year of experience with boilers. Journeyman HVAC License. Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment repair, installation and maintenance procedures practices and techniques. Knowledge of electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems. Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and practices. Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of HVAC equipment design. Knowledge of pressure charts, gauges, tools and equipment used in HVAC equipment repair. Knowledge of installation and maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems. Ability to read and interpret refrigeration pressure charts and gauges electric, temperature and humidity meters and recording equipment. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on large HVAC equipment including cooling towers and boilers. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to perform all the physical with or without accommodations, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
