Facilities Plumber Position Type: Operations / Maintenance Date Posted: 6/29/2026 Pay Rate: $21.50 – $25.50 hourly Location: Zoo Knoxville Status: Full Time, Non‑Exempt Summary Under limited supervision, the Plumber will work with the Facilities Manager and Zoo staff to maintain, repair, install, and rehabilitate facility systems, equipment, buildings, enclosures, and utilities on Zoo grounds, ensuring safe, efficient operations that support Zoo programs. Duties and Responsibilities Exemplify Zoo Knoxville’s Core Values in all interactions with guests and team members. Follow procedures and preventative maintenance programs, reporting problems to the Facilities Manager. Diagnose, repair, and maintain water supply, sanitary waste, stormwater, and other drainage systems. Install new additions and integrate existing systems into new projects. Replace or repair faucets, drinking fountains, misting systems, toilets, and related fixtures. Expose buried pipes by hand and perform necessary repairs. Perform preventive maintenance on safety devices and mechanical plumbing equipment. Repair damaged or destroyed structures and maintain specialized equipment. Understand water quality standards and related regulations. Assist other trades and departments as needed. Operate maintenance equipment such as trucks, carts, backhoes, skid‑steer loaders, ladders, shovels, and hand tools. Read and interpret blueprints, plumbing diagrams, and related documentation. Use plumbing tools such as torches, saws, augers, and flush units. Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the park’s grounds, buildings, and utility systems. Assist with installation, set‑up, and removal of special or temporary exhibits and event operations. Request and purchase supplies with proper authorization. Enforce safety standards and instruct crew members. Complete daily activity reports, including material, equipment use, and time management. Provide professional customer service to internal and external customers, vendors, and contractors. Stay informed about advancements in facility and equipment maintenance. Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental and industry codes, including ADA, AZA, USDA, TWRA, OSHA, MOSH, EPA, and DOT. Be aware of health and safety risks associated with tools, machinery, vehicles, chemicals, and animal environments. Work irregular hours, including holidays and weekends. Wear the Zoo Knoxville uniform and nametag at all times. Cross‑train to support LSS systems of the zoo. Education and Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction industry or facility maintenance plumbing. A technical or trade school degree in construction management, facility maintenance, or a related field is required. Prior experience in an AZA‑accredited zoological environment is preferred but not required. OSHA 10 certification for General Industry, AALSO Level1, and AFO certification are preferable but not mandatory. High school diploma Valid driver’s license Technical/trade school degree or equivalent experience OSHA 10 General Industry certification 2+ years of on‑the‑job experience Working Conditions The position requires English communication skills and proficiency with two‑way radios, email, and telephone. Hours may vary; weekends and some holiday shifts are required. Employees will work in close proximity to exotic and domestic animals and must be aware of associated hazards.
