Project Engineer III

Engineering ManagerOrizon, a Spitzer company under the Race Rock platform, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead engineering and detailing in support of structural steel fabrication operations.This role is responsible for delivering accurate, fabrication-ready engineering output, including connection design, while ensuring alignment between engineering, estimating, shop operations, and customer requirements.This is a production-driven leadership role. Success is measured by the ability to produce clear, buildable engineering deliverables, maintain schedule, and eliminate rework in the shop.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage outsourced engineering and detailing teamsDeliver accurate, buildable drawings, connection designs, and Tekla modelsEnsure all designs are code-compliant, practical, in alignment with contract documents, and fabrication-readyAlign engineering output with procurement deliverables, tracking system upload data, CNC files, shop capabilities, sequencing, and production schedulesCoordinate with estimating to support bidding and project setupInterface with customers, EPC contractors, and customer engineering teamsIdentify and resolve issues before they impact fabrication or scheduleSupport continuous improvement in engineering quality, speed, and consistencyTekla / BIM (Required)Hands-on proficiency in Tekla StructuresExperience importing BIM models (IFC, Revit, etc.) into Tekla/SDS2Ability to clean, validate, and manage model data for fabrication useExperience producing outputs that support shop drawings and CNC/automated equipmentRequired Experience (Non-Negotiable)Structural steel fabrication or heavy industrial environmentStrong experience in structural steel connection design (AISC-based)Strong working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding requirements and ASTM material specifications, with the ability to apply them directly to fabrication and connection designExperience working with or supporting EPC contractors (e.g., Fluor, Bechtel, etc.)Proven leadership experience managing engineering or detailing teamsHands-on experience with Tekla Structures and BIM model managementStrong understanding of fabrication workflows, shop constraints and sequencing, and engineering deliverables tied to production and schedulePreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering (Structural or Civil preferred)PE license (preferred)Experience with AISC certification environmentsFamiliarity with automated fabrication systems (e.g., Voortman)Experience supporting estimating or project cost alignmentOperational ExpectationsEngineering deliverables are right the first time and ready for fabricationConnection designs are efficient, buildable, and support productionEngineering and shop operations remain fully alignedRFIs, rework, and production delays are minimizedEngineering supports both standard shapes and tubular work as requiredWhat's it like to be a part of the Spitzer Family?Spitzer is a fast-paced company that focuses on exceeding our customers' expectations on every project. Spitzer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed.
