Cibola General Hospital is hiring**
We're seeking a Nursing Assistant to join our team of compassionate caregivers. Our 25-bed critical access hospital allows our compassionate caregivers to provide excellent patient care in an environment that supports them in their professional growth and development with the latest technologies. Cibola General Hospital is one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe. Known for its mild year-round climate and outdoor activities, Grants NM offers low property taxes and inexpensive housing costs.
Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care and Radiology with X-ray, CT, MRI. We have three operating rooms including a room for scopes. Clinics, Lab services, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, and Rehab, and skilled care beds are provided.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The nursing assistant is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing any other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care, under the direction of a Professional Nurse.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under the supervision and/or direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Staff Nurse or Director of
Nursing, performs various duties assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in
accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Assumes direct patient care responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Staff Nurse.
- Administers daily care in an effective, timely manner.
- AM/PM care, includes backrubs and shave.
- Assists with ambulation.
- Assists with elimination.
- Dress/undress patient.
- Change bed linen.
- Administers daily care in an effective, timely manner.
- Catheter care
- Carries out special orders or treatments as directed by the Team Leader.
- Special skin care.
- Collects specimens.
- Intake and output.
- Vital signs.
- Compresses (warm and cold).
- Carries out special orders or treatments as directed by the Team Leader.
- Preoperative and postoperative care.
- Enemas, vaginal irrigations.
- Surgical preps.
- Any additional duties as directed by supervisor.
- Provides patients and family members encouragement and support.
- Functions as a cooperative, active member of the health care team.
- Observes patient’s conditions and reports immediately, any untoward signs,
- symptoms or unusual occurrences.
- Maintains current documentation of patient’s status on Treatment Sheet and gives
- report to Nursing Supervisor or assigned Staff nurse and relieving Nurse Assistant.
- Assists in Admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Answers patient call light quickly.
- Assists in transporting patients to surgery.
- Accepts and completes special assignments in a timely manner.
- Emptying trash.
- Passing fresh linen.
- Cleaning patient and employee food refrigerators.
- Passing fresh water to patients.
- Cleaning Nursing break room.
- Cleans equipment after use and inspects for damage.
- Assists other staff voluntarily in completion of duties.
- Completes assignments as directed by the Nursing Supervisor.
- Acts as preceptor for new nursing assistants, reporting progress to Nursing Supervisor.
- Attends at least 75% of unit staff meetings, if a full time employee.
- Ensures patient safety.
- Performs all procedures and conducts self in accordance with the hospital and safety policies and procedures.
- Participates in CPR program and completes necessary requirements.
- Maintains constant vigilance over patients (q 1 hour), taking necessary safety precautions (rails up, call lights within reach, bed in low position).
- Maintains patients’ room in neat, orderly manner with clear walking area.
- Assists patients to car at time of discharge.
- Demonstrates the professionalism necessary to function in the health care environment.
- Dresses and conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
- Recognizes and utilizes appropriately the chain of command to solve problems.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital or physician related information.
- Respects patient privacy, main provisions for such at all times.
- Reports to work promptly at least 95% of the time. Less than 12 tardies per year, greater than 5 minutes.
- Uses sick time when approved and is not considered excessive. (Excessive is defined as more than 7 per year).
- Recognizes the value of continued professional growth and development.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures.
- Relieves in other areas as necessary.
- Participates in In-service Education Programs.
- Attends all mandatory classes, unless other arrangements have been made.
- Requests explanations in areas where knowledge is limited.
- Relieves the professional nurse of clerical and non-technical duties, when possible.
- Task list; demonstrates proficiency of these procedures.
- Answering intercom and unit telephone promptly and in a mannerly way.
- Serves and removes patient diet trays and feeds patients when necessary.
- Care of water pitcher/forces fluids when ordered/accurately records I & O.
- Prepares and passes nourishments to patients.
- Correctly places bedpans and urinals for patients and removes the patient correctly as soon as he/she is finished.
- Assists patients with use of bedside commodes.
- Correctly gives oral hygiene, including special mouth care/denture care.
- Provides hair and nail care/shampoos.
- Gives AM/PM care including back rubs and special skin care.
- Demonstrates correct positioning of patients and turning of patients for
- prevention of pressure sores.
- Demonstrates correct techniques for baths; sitz, partial, assist and complete or shower.
- Correct technique for bed making; occupied, unoccupied.
- Correct technique in patient activity assistance; placing patient in chair,
- ambulating with assistance, cane, crutches or walker.
- Transporting patients correctly; by wheelchair or stretcher.
- Correct technique with mechanical devices; foot boards, linen cradle, trapeze set-up, K-pad or ice packs.
- Correct technique for vital signs; temperature (oral, axillary, rectal), pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
- Correct care of the patient after death/morgue preparation/belongings.
- Care of room after discharge.
- Correct technique for collection of specimens; sputum, stool, urine.
- Correct technique for culture and sensitivity collection.
- Correct procedure for collecting urine specimen when a patient has an indwelling catheter.
- Correct application and monitoring of restrained patients.
- Care of linens.
- Care of prosthesis.
- Infection Control and Isolation techniques; proper hand washing, gowning,
- gloving, and masking.
- Correct procedure in caring pre and postoperative for a patient.
- Role in fire/disaster/emergency situations.
- Foley care.
Specifically trained for technical nursing functions via “on the job” training, in-service training or formal nurse aide classes. Employment is in accordance with Cibola General Hospital’s policies on eligibility for employment (policy #105.102).
