Must-Have: Troubleshooting labor and delivery equipment, Fetal monitoring, Telemetry fetal monitoring, Fetal scalp electrode use, Intrauterine pressure catheter use
Description: The Registered Nurse performs under the direct supervision of the Director. The nurse is delegated an assignment by the charge nurse to achieve quality patient care. The Clinical Nurse will implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner. This includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the unit charge nurse. Documentation in the Patient Care Record is required. Direct observation by the Director and patient evaluations of care will be utilized to assess performance. The RN is responsible for patient care and is ultimately accountable to the Director of Nursing. The Clinical Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. This includes knowledge of the principles of growth and development. The RN must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. They interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. The RN will document all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care. The job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; the employee will also perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned. The RN must demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting labor and delivery equipment. This includes fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheters, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights, and patient IV infusion pumps. Critical thinking skills must be applied in emergent situations by recognizing maternal and fetal complications. The RN must demonstrate the ability to anticipate the needs of physicians and anesthesia to expedite emergencies. Recognizing and intervening in complications of delivery, such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis, are required skills. The RN must demonstrate the ability to safely position the laboring patient to enhance uteroplacental blood flow. Safe use of leg stirrups during vaginal delivery and assisting the physician with vacuum extractors or forceps is necessary. The RN must tolerate physically demanding tasks of repositioning patients under epidural anesthesia. Safe practices related to the care of the mother-infant couplet must be understood. Recognizing compromised newborns, obtaining appropriate assistance, and performing emergency interventions is essential. Knowledge of and the ability to educate on the ten steps to successful breastfeeding is required. Effective communication and interaction with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups is crucial. Sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs must be demonstrated. Interacting effectively and building respectful relationships with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals is expected. Adherence to policies in the Employee Handbook is mandatory. Compliance with established values and safety culture promotion is essential. Employees must demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve departmental goals. Participating in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines is required. The ability to use appropriate communication apps is necessary. The spreading of rumors and gossip is prohibited as it creates unnecessary turmoil and weakens working relationships. Mental and physical demands include the ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
