Engineer V Civil/Structural - Nuclear

Job Description Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is currently seeking an Engineer V for a direct‑hire position at our Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC office. Openings are available for civil/structural, electrical, I&C, and mechanical engineering. This is an in‑office position and is not remote. Position Synopsis The individual will perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power‑plant projects. Extensive experience with power‑plant systems, components, and structures related to the engineer’s discipline is required. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and preparing modifications, independently evaluating and selecting standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for technical projects, and preparing specifications and/or modification packages, defining design scope, developing design‑criteria documents, and selecting equipment and instruments. The role also involves managing budget, scope, schedule, and quality of the designated work assignment with minimal guidance and technical oversight. The position requires interfacing with multiple design disciplines and coordinating with customer representatives, evaluating proposed modifications for safety and reliability, reviewing and checking designs prepared by other engineers, and mentoring entry‑level and junior engineers. Responsibilities Perform engineering and design activities for power‑plant upgrades and new projects; evaluate and select standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria; develop specifications and modification packages; define design scope and develop design‑criteria documents; identify and select equipment and instruments; develop system functionality; manage budget, scope, schedule, and quality; interface with other design disciplines and customer representatives; evaluate conditions and proposed modifications to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability; review and check designs, drawings, and data from other engineers; provide mentoring oversight to junior engineers. Qualifications Education Required (minimum): B.S. in an applicable discipline from an ABET‑accredited engineering program. Experience Required (minimum): 20 years of related experience, with at least 10 years at a nuclear commercial power plant and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects, including operating plant procedures, processes, and licensing. Other Required Qualifications (minimum): Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); effective time‑management skills; understanding and compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes; ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access; willingness to work overtime and travel to client sites, including field and office work; ability to perform walk‑downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, climb ladders, access security‑controlled areas, and enter confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas. Education Desired Master’s degree in an applicable discipline from an ABET‑accredited engineering program. Certification(s) or License(s) Desired Professional Engineering registration (PE).
