We're a group of employees who care about not only what we do but how we do it.About the Role: As a Deli Cook, you will work collaboratively with your coworkers to prepare and cook to order a variety of foods sold in the stores Deli department. You'll follow established recipes using quality ingredients.Who You Are: You have a love of all things food and for using the best ingredients possible. You're passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.What You'll Do: You will work with others in the deli to produce prepared foods and ensure that the food we offer is tasty, fresh, and attractive. You'll work together with your teammates to achieve the day's production list, which may include any of the following:Determine which recipes need to be made each day by consulting the production sheets and current inventoryStrictly follow the system of documentation necessary to effectively meet HACCP standardsUtilize efficient cooking techniques and knife skillsDeliver properly labeled, completed dishes to storage or customers as appropriateWork the deli counter, keep deli cases stocked and attractiveMaintain a clean and sanitized workspaceMaintain personal cleanliness including clean clothes, aprons, and personInquire about and integrate short dated items from other departments for use in deli specialsUnderstand cost of goods and margins, as it pertains to recipe developmentBuy product as neededCommunicate signage needs and work with management to promote deli offeringsGreet and offer assistance to customersTreat people fairly, consistently and with respectKnow product locations in order to assist customers in finding what they need throughout the storeAbide by all co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documentsParticipate in required training and meetingsKeep the store orderly and clean.Perform all other duties as assigned by SupervisorWhat You Bring: This role requires the following experience, skills and abilities:Prior experience working in food service or a restaurant environmentFamiliarity with prepared foodsAbility to follow recipesA positive attitude and collaborative spiritOutstanding customer service skillsWillingness to be open, to learn and take on new responsibilitiesRegular, predictable attendanceEffective communication skills in EnglishAbility to read and comprehend instructionsDemonstrated accuracy and thoroughnessAbility to work independentlyAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to handle multiple demandsAdherence to deadlinesFlexible schedule, available daytime, evening and weekend hoursNice-to-Haves: It's a bonus if you have one or more of the following:Previous experience working as a deli cookPrior culinary training or educationWhat You'll Get: Willy Street Co-op is one of Madison's best-kept secrets in terms of a great place to work.
