Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36/48 Experience: One year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing. Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting Licensed Independent Provider in examinations and treatment of patients. Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents. Performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. Attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents and prepares a list of inmates/residents to be examined. Prepares the examining room and equipment. Operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and/or procedures. Calls the Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and/or other emergencies. Examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries or those who become ill or injured. Refers inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facility as required by their condition. Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel and addressing their needs. Monitors inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. Provides guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies. Utilizes established corporate and facility policies and procedures in making decisions but uses sound independent judgment in meeting responsibilities and performing duties. Regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses. Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed or required. Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances. Observes and records inmate/resident behavior. Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and securely stores or safely disposes of supplies and equipment. Provides health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis as required. Assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar. Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal, and non-legal documents. Reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary. Facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing required levels of efficiency and approved, appropriate medical services. Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures, taking appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
