Job Overview Position: Principal – Fairview Elementary Location: Edgecombe County Public Schools, Rocky Mount, North Carolina Starting Date: July 1, 2026 Job Description The Principal serves as the chief administrator of the school, responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets that promote the educational and professional development of students and staff. Responsibilities General Planning: Conceptualize broad school goals and plan to ensure procedures and schedules support the total school program. General Coordination: Ensure the school program aligns with legal, financial, and organizational structures; define staff responsibilities and communicate the program to the community. Enhancement of Personnel Skills: Provide activities that facilitate professional growth and improve instructional quality. School Objectives: Identify annual objectives for instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs; involve faculty in developing curricular objectives. Evaluation of Performance: Evaluate student progress and maintain up‑to‑date student data; supervise and appraise staff performance. Facilitate Organizational Efficiency: Maintain inter‑school communication, seek central office assistance, maintain relationships with students, staff, and parents, and comply with lines of authority. New Staff and Students: Orient and assist new staff and students, and involve them in program input. Community: Encourage use of community resources, cooperate with community use of school facilities, interpret the program to the community, and maintain communication with community members. Supplies and Equipment: Manage, direct, and maintain records of materials, supplies, and equipment needed for daily operations; involve staff in prioritizing instructional supplies. Services: Organize, oversee, and provide support for services, supplies, materials, and equipment used in the school program; utilize community resources. Minimum Training and Experience • Completion of an approved program in school administration at the master’s level or above. • 3 to 5 years of classroom teaching experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special Requirements • Valid North Carolina principal license. • Valid North Carolina driver’s license. Other Qualifications Qualifications include physical ability to operate office equipment, moderate physical effort, and the ability to perform tasks such as operating a motor vehicle and handling equipment. Strong interpersonal communication, language ability, logical thinking, numerical aptitude, and motor coordination are also required. Job Requirements Master’s degree preferred.
