Litigation Paralegal

Position Overview

Orlans is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys in the preparation, review, and processing of legal documents within a fast-paced mortgage default litigation environment. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate case information, monitoring legal deadlines, updating client and internal systems, and ensuring compliance with court, client, and jurisdictional requirements. The ideal candidate thrives on managing multiple priorities, communicating professionally with clients and courts, and delivering exceptional service while meeting strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Client Communication & Case Management

• Monitor and update client websites with case milestones, status updates, and document uploads.
• Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal stakeholders via phone, email, and client platforms.
• Respond promptly to client inquiries and status requests.
• Request loan documents and follow up on outstanding executables and approvals.
• Escalate title, affidavit, and executable issues to ensure deadlines are met.
• Participate in client meetings, audits, remediation efforts, and site visits as needed.

Legal Compliance & Document Processing

• Conduct SCRA, PACER, and other legal research searches.
• Prepare, review, and process litigation documents, including motions, discovery requests, responses, firm defenses, and related pleadings.
• Monitor work queues and case deadlines to ensure timely completion and compliance with client service level agreements (SLAs).
• Maintain accurate case information in the firm's case management system.
• Ensure legal documents comply with filing and recording requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Maintain complete and organized electronic case files and supporting documentation.
• Assist with client scorecard reviews and rebuttals as needed.

Litigation Support & Administration

• Review workload reports and manage work queues to prioritize assignments effectively.
• Coordinate with attorneys regarding upcoming hearings and legal deadlines to ensure proper coverage and timely action.
• Track fee approvals and follow up on outstanding requests.
• Assist with legal research and case-specific projects.
• Work collaboratively with attorneys and leadership to improve workflows, templates, and processes.
• Support the resolution of client escalations and complex case matters.
• Contribute to team objectives and help achieve departmental performance goals.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Associate degree and certification from a recognized national paralegal association required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum of six years of paralegal experience may be considered in lieu of formal certification.
• Experience in mortgage default, foreclosure, bankruptcy, or creditor rights litigation is preferred.

• Strong understanding of legal procedures, court systems, and litigation practices.
• Ability to read and interpret PACER and other electronic court dockets.

Technology Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems.
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Power PDF, or similar PDF software.
• Ability to learn and navigate multiple client platforms and case management systems.
