Third-party design partners are used (both locally and abroad) to augment our in-house team or to provide specific expertise. For the most part, we build what we design – often in our modern manufacturing factory right here in Western Pennsylvania.We design and develop a wide variety of world-class gas detection instruments, sensors, accessories, and infrastructure for worker connectivity and remote management. Our designs include the latest mixed-signal embedded computing technology, mechanical packaging, miniaturization, and compelling user interfaces. We partner with a dedicated in-house application software team to provide feature-rich web-based applications that help our customers keep their workers safe.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis entry-level Electrical Engineer position supports the design, development, verification, and sustaining of electrical hardware for Industrial Scientific gas detection products. The role is intended for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who will work under the guidance of experienced engineers while gaining hands-on experience with analog and digital circuits, embedded hardware, PCB design, product testing, agency approval requirements, and cross-functional product development.This position supports detailed electrical design activities throughout the Product Development lifecycle. This position may occasionally be involved in Enhancement & Sustaining projects for ISC legacy products. This position is expected to work closely with various cross-functional groups to fully assure a properly designed product from concept to production.The duties may include, but are not limited to:Support the design of analog and digital hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, IEC, MSHA, etc.)Assist in developing and verifying electrical element-level specifications and requirementsDevelop technical design documentation with guidanceSupport troubleshooting of new and legacy designsFollow the corporate engineering processes and contribute improvement ideasPrepare and present materials for design reviews with guidance from senior engineers to champion design for manufacturability, reliability and serviceabilitySupport legacy product upgrades and sustaining engineering activitiesParticipate collaboratively in cross-functional product development teamsSupport collaboration with quality assurance during product testing.Required QualificationsMinimum BSEE from an accredited engineering college or universityRecent graduate or expected graduate in 2026Coursework, internship, co-op, or project experience with analog circuit designFamiliarity with digital hardware design and microcontrollersExposure to schematic capture and PCB layout tools; Altium experience preferredDemonstrated analytical skillsSelf-starter with the ability to work as part of a team while also meeting individual responsibilitiesPreferred QualificationsUp to 2 years of circuit design experience through internship, co-op, academic, or professional workRF design and/or wireless technology integrationBattery technologiesEmbedded programmingSpice circuit simulation and signal integritySoft SkillsAble to work effectively in a formal product development team environmentAble to exercise independent, sound judgment and decision makingAble to commit to and work under deadlinesEffective written and verbal communication skillsCollaborate with third-party and offshore development teams when neededFortive Corporation OverviewFortive's essential technology makes the world safer and more productive.
